Blackdeath - Also sprach das Chaos album cover

BLACKDEATH was founded back in 1995 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. From the very foundation and up to now BLACKDEATH has chanted and is chanting the Apocalypse which befalls everywhere, from the deeps of human psyche to the chasms of the endless Space. BLACKDEATH plays Apocalyptic Black Metal exclusively. The album contains two tracks.

"Paralysiertes Äquinoktium/Мир рухнул" leads off the album. It's a 14-minute opus, beginning with vocal screams and some dissonant and ominous guitar tones. You can hear the bass guitar...something that isn't common in the genre. Eerie background effects abound as well. The vocal style is interesting...not necessarily all the ripping screams you normally hear in this type of music. The guitars also build some nice layering with the bass, while the drums roll forward in a common method. Before it comes to a close, the final three minutes consist of evil chanting and other harrowing background elements.

Im Labryinth" is the second and final track; at just under 20 minutes in length. It begins with dissonant guitars and more audible bass notes. The vocals vary from tortured screams to chants, but you get the sense that the vocalist is smiling while being tortured, unaffected by the pain. It pauses a couple times to let the nefarious themes develop. The eerie keyboard effects are just another way to get the evil across, and another way for the band to show their versatility. It features a slow fade-out at the end, leaving you hanging.

It's hard to gain a complete perspective on a band or an album for that matter when there are only two tracks. But, because of their length, I feel like I understand what the band is trying to get across. The two bleak tracks are as alive as they are dead, in the musical sense of those words. The vocalist never lets up throughout the songs, and the background effects are both omnipresent and scary, and they use them at just the right times. A warning...don't play this song at night or in a church...for you might just summon a demon that will end your life.
