Throughout the album there are times when you can really sense the inspiration for the material from pioneers in the world of Black Metal and closely following the roots of Burzum. For the first few minutes into the album everything is pretty cool, you can sense the flow of standard Black Metal going into Depressive Black Metal and everything seems to be going the right way.
The disappointing thing is, is that it is only cool for a certain amount of time. Black Metal is usually repetitive and consistently atmospheric but it takes a lot for the artist to keep your attention when it comes down to that, BHLEG seem to have not been up to standard with this despite having so much going for the Swedish duo.
On a good note, the band achieve exactly what they're going for in terms of lyrical content, whilst you might not actually be able to understand anything they're screaming or 'bhleging' (feel free to laugh, I don't want to seem like the only one doing it at my poor puns) you know that they're all about nature and literally just existing. That is something that takes away the fact the BHLEG fail to entertain with the standard Black Metal elements - they almost make the music feel like you're exploring the galaxy and that's a brilliant thing to have, to be able make the listener vision the picture the artist is trying to paint.
All in all, BHLEG have made a fantastic attempt creating "Draumr Ást", it has its strengths and it has its weakness's but so does every album out there. It's only major downfall is that the album doesn't keep your attention as much as it should but maybe next time the duo will keep their atmospheric sounds that have made this album something great to listen to and be able to keep your attention.
