Below The Sun - Envoy album cover

Ever heard of a town called Krasnoyarsk? I hadn't until I was assigned this release from band who have labelled their genre Experimental/Post Metal on the old social media we all know as Facebook. This town is situated in Siberia, a first to breed a metal band in my time as a music journalist here at Metal Temple. This interesting band is known as BELOW THE SUN and I have a theory that they will be a hot discussion topic of the metal community.

Like I have said before BELOW THE SUN hail from Krasnoyarsk, Siberia; they formed in the year 2012 for a one off performance originally but absolutely refused to die out. If their latest album "Envoy" doesn't justify this statement I don't know what will.

Onto the album itself; the opener named "Outward The Sky" starts of the heavy proceedings of misery and despair which in this sort of metal is a huge compliment. Experiencing quite a stressful day yesterday and listening to this at the same time wasn't the smartest of moves but it is a record worth taking note of if you like a bit of Sludge here and there, added with some Doom and Progressive. Long story short there is something for everyone.

When labelling something Experimental it can often back fire and you don't get the reaction you desire; like when a chef experiments with new spices and flavours. This wasn't the case with this new experiment that's entered my music collection; I think the famous phrase Archimedes when he discovered a method defining the purity of gold can be used here, for those who don't know it's...eureka. The beautifully unusual fusion of raw distortion, aggressive yet addictive vocals and atmospheric sounds from all sorts of instruments BELOW THE SUN have hit the spot.

So if you're a fan of Sludge/Doom/Progressive side of Metal then this definitely is the album for you; or in fact if it's not your first choice of music (myself included) then I recommend giving it a try, you won't be disappointed.
