If one fan could think of music as an Euclidian space (remember the Cartesian space axis x, y and z your learned on Math classes), there are endless directions, and no one can follow just one. It depends only of you to start things up on your own and to forget known waters. And it seems that the German trio BEGTHRON on “Neu Asen Land” wants to sail further on unknown waters. As the band’s seventh full-length, it depicts a mature form of Atmospheric Black Metal/Progressive Black Metal with some Viking Metal traits (and some German Hardcore-like touches as well).

The band’s shows some technical complexity on its instrumental lines, as well as some shifts on the vocals’ tunes. It’s really a very good work, full of energy and savage. The band’s drummer, Sven Leonhardt, worked on the recordings, mixing and mastering of “Neu Asen Land”, and he the choice was for a ‘stripped-off’ sonority that could resemble something of the old days of Black Metal, with instrumental tunes faithfully linked to the past, but with an outfit that fits on modern times. And it’s a very good work, indeed.

For one that’s not used to Avant-garde tendencies on Metal (in simple words, the new things), maybe “Neu Asen Land” can be hard to swallow at first. But for those into such trenches, “Skandinavische Expansion «Eismeerflotte RGNRØK»”, “Aufbruch nach Neu Asen Land «Von Pol zu Pol»”, “«««SOG»»»”, “Horizont in Flammen «Sólfeuer’s Fall»” (very good shifts on vocals tunes), “Schiffbruch im Sonnengrab «Wrackmente»”, “Gefangene der Polarnacht «In Nacht und Eis»” and “Skaldenruhm erstarrt in Zeit «Arktischer Sarkophag»” are true pieces of joy that covers an ample set of emotions and with excellent technique.
