Sunderland's legends of NWOBHM BATTLEAXE have reissued their powerful second album "Power From The Universe" for its 30th anniversary! Featuring some nice bonus material, here's one you might have missed, or perhaps like myself not even been around for back in the day.
Opening up with "Chopper Attack", this is a track worthy of being called "classic" from the get-go, with some great riffs throughout and some proper metal vocals full of grit and power. "Metal Rock" follows this up with a great grooving sound and some great solid rhythm section work.
Overall this is a great album, one that I personally hadn't heard of before. I'm glad I have now, with some awesome tracks like "Fortune Lady" which is a great example of classic 80s metal songwriting, with some great bass playing holding the track together really nicely, something that is sorely lacking nowadays. This one has some really great dynamics too! "Over The Top" is also a killer track, with a real rockin' rhythm section and some tasty riffs supporting some cool vocals and a great chorus. Title track "Power From The Universe" is a great hard-hitting track, with some nice energy displayed from the band as a tight unit.
The album ends with "Make It In America" and this is another great rocking song to finish things off here, with some great-layered vocals, and a really good main riff. The album finishes off with some nice bonus tracks to finish things off. I won't spoil too much but let's say "Love Sick Man" is pretty damn cool!
"Power From The Universe" is a great album, brought back to life thanks to this re-issue! I highly recommend it for fans of NWOBHM, and for fans of metal done the right way, straight and true with lots of heavy groove!<
