This reissue from BAL SAGOTH's album "Atlantis Ascendant", which originally came out in 2001,features an expanded lyric booklet, additional artwork, and Remastered audio. It's released through Metal Mind Productions and all tracks are written by Byron Roberts, Jonny Maudling and Chris Maudling.
"Atlantis Ascendant" by BAL SAGOTH is yet another album filled with science fiction movie sounds, but this time the movie's about the depths of the biggest existing ocean and about the many kind of beings living there. Sometimes viewed from a sea coaster, inside a submarine, a diving suit, with dangerous darkness ahead and the steaming power to make it through the highest waves and avoid the biggest obstacles. This is a story told by dark voices and backing up screams in a Symphonic Extreme Black Metal suit operated by a tight team that also has the ability to create a floating sound next to fast riffs, steam machine drums, symphonic tensions and whispers of a wind blowing harsh.
The album "Atlantis Ascendant" starts with a sound that made me think about a huge ship sailing out, heading for the ocean with a last farewell and a wave to every one left behind. As soon as they're out in the open a heavy winds starts blowing making them move quickly to prepare for the upcoming storm they've planned to steam through. Confronting head on backed up by an experienced team on this fifth album of BAL SAGOTH called "Atlantis Ascendant".
The journey's trailed through cold and dark places, but the engine of this band has no trouble plowing through mountains of ice and the depths of hell heading fast forward with no intention to stop for anything. Of course this is all just fantasy touched by the album "Atlantis Ascendant" from BAL SAGOTH. Guess it's all in the ear of the beholder. Inside my ears BAL SAGOTH did manage very well to create an fantasy science fiction ocean world atmosphere with this album "Atlantis Ascendant".
I wouldn't call this album better or lesser than their former work, but they're all kind of holding their own atmosphere.
