Patterns of Domination
Backstabber
From their EPK, “Loosely based on James Redfield's The Celestine Prophecy, “Patterns of Domination” delves into the four patterns that serve as means to canalize someone else's attention and energy. Together, they form an endless cycle of consumption that completely breaks down the victim from the inside out. Like fresh air. These are the first songs with the new members of the band and they contributed a lot to this album." “Harvesting the Weak” is first. It has a classic Death Metal sound, in that there is very little melody, but the band presents it with confidence and enthusiasm. The arrangements are also quite tight. “Langues Sales” is another sturdy and weighted song that has plenty of balls. Where the sound falls a bit short is they are staying within the confines of the genre too much. I understand why a band would want to do that, but I always advise throwing caution to the wind so that you can come up with a sound that is all your own.
“Crawling Through your Bones” has some smoother opening tones that are more circular in nature than the angled ones of the previous songs. The song also has a harrowing and nefarious sound, despite the over-use of open notes as the base. “Snitches Get Stitches” is the final cut, and it ends the album in an unceremonious manner. Overall, the band has the talent, the energy, the confidence, and the drive, but what they really need is to think outside of the box a little more. They need to create something that is entirely their own, rather than relying on formulas used in the past.
