Beyond The River Of Laments

AVERNUM WHISPERS is a one-man project from Italy that plays Doom / Black Metal with lyrics pertaining to the classic mythology of the Greek-Roman world.
The album showed great potential mixing the bleakness of Doom with the atmospheric sense of Black Metal, not to mention the mythology based lyrics, but all this potential is marred by the terrible production that plagues this album. I am not sure if it is actually a bad production or this is due to the Black Metal heritage, but it is sufficient to ruin what could have been a pretty decent album. Granted it is wouldn't be an excellent album or a contender to the "release of the year", mainly because of the instrumentals that doesn't sound all that impressive, but the atmosphere that Fabio creates is something that is beautifully done.
