Aurea - Survive album cover

This is actually not a new band in the Italian metal scene since it was formed back in 1997 as a Power Metal act. The years that followed saw the band going through several line-up changes and addition while two demo and two mini CDs were released. The several line-up changes and the lack of a record deal brought the band in front of the splitting up possibility in the late of 2004; AUREA finally was reactivated in 2005 and through intense rehearsing 10 songs were recorded that will be included in the upcoming possible full length CD.
Survive has been in the METAL TEMPLE headquarters for quite sometime but failed to get through the review process since it was lost in the high pile of promo CDs that was created the last few months. So, after this pathetic excuse let me talk about the four new tracks included in the latest AUREA mini-CD. Alucard is the first track and clearly defines the band's music intentions which can be described as Progressive Metal with some Power Metal additions. Although the song is pretty good I got the impression that it sometimes got over-crowded for my ears by presenting too many ideas that were a little bit difficult to follow. The second track Misunderstood brought some sweet FAITH NO MORE influences in means of the solid bass rhythm section while some aggression was added in the faster breaks. This music multi-personality proves that although AUREA consist of some skillful musicians they still haven't found a fitting musical character. Survive brought some melody in with the high pitched clean vocals and the very good guitar solo while Autumn's Vision surfaced for once more the aforementioned crowed feeling.
To sum things up I can surely say that the composing and performing potentials are there; on the other hand the search of a more personal and more distinct musical profile should continue for the future release. Here, in METAL TEMPLE we will keep our ears open for the band's next discographic step that hopefully will come under a signed record contract. For the time being you can check them out by clicking the band's myspace link found above and listen to the entire mini-CD.
PS: you won't find a rate on this because I don't think that the unsigned releases should get one, since they contain the ongoing work of a band and are a way to become known in our metal community.
