TorkjellRød's vocals are the only thing capable to numb your achy soul and wipe her last heartless words out of your mind. It's been so long since "Threshold" kept company to both of you, while you were holding in your arms and the stars above were telling you that this is hopeless...

AUDREY HORNE are back with a new album in a single suitcase, more melancholic than ever, after the 2007's "Le Fol" and the breathtaking track "Threshold" which reminds me of the prog veterans GOBLIN. Torkjell, Ice (BOURBON FLAME), Thomas (SAHG) and Kjetil (DERIDE) made this time an album more stable, artistic and catatonical at the same time, that is also more emotional and complicate. David Lynch's Audrey Horne who gives once again her name to the band, baptizes the new album and female lust are spread red everywhere upon their Norwegian grey music walls.

How many things have been changed from "Le Fol" till "Audrey Horne"? Not much, I could certainly respond and my upper lip starts to tremble. It is more than sure that they have left behind their Metal past layers for good and keep diving into TOOL-ish paths increasingly with a little flavor of post-grunge strokes. The blowing flute in the "These Vultures" introduction confesses everything about nowadays' AUDREY and the emotion of the sensitive innocence continues the job from the point where they have left it. The aggressive "Charon" turns into the ultimate hymn of 'Hornes'. Nothing more, nothing less- especially when "Circus" is tossed into the sea and seems to lose the battle with the furious water.

You've reach successfully "Down Like Suicide" and here's the spot that you've to take the hard way; guitars are pretty cruel, riffs are ready to blow your ears and you could be lucky if you had by your side a good 25 years malt whiskey. "How worse could this be?" you're thinking and believe me, you don't want to know the answer. "Blaze Of Ashes" complete the guitar outbreak and Rød's vocals is the only comfort you could find. I don't blame you; if I were you, I'd probably commit redrum (in reverse) with my bear hands. How difficult is to step aside, move back and lose whatever precious you had in your whole life! But she couldn't hear and feel your needs, your thoughts; "Sail Away" starts what you have to finish: the unfinished sympathy, this role play for one and loneliness is outside your door, become colder and colder till you're sorry for it and heave to bring it in. Rød sings: "I'm sinking, you're fading and sheets have been lost at sea, I'm drowning, you're leaving that's how it ends". The numbing pain: I assure you I know this feeling.

The production could remember you AMORPHIS' "Elegy" days and the Norwegian element is scattering everywhere: well-polished guitars, bass-y and full sound, generous space for the drums and a single voice playing the leading role in the personal tragedy- here lies isolation and human devastation. "Pitch Black Mourning" is ready to spread the remains of melancholy and "Firehose" is the absolute AUDREY HORNE's hymn for 2010. Simple, pompous and sensitive is able to bring tears upon your eyes. You have forgot how is to cry, haven't you? "Darkdrive" comes to save the situation putting things into their places and "Godspeed" gives you the last kiss goodbye on your closed eyelashes. You were never good at saying goodbye; that's why she left you first.

The "Audrey Horne" album is accompanied by a second CD which called "The Acoustic Sessions". CD2 includes 6 past AUDREY HORNE's songs in a different acoustic version. You might find it quite interesting and refreshing.
