From Bandcamp, "Atemporal" has served as an amphora to be filled with timeless images of human spirituality, fable, and mythology," Sebastian Montesi says. "As a vessel of esoteric expression I have found it worthy, and now I hand it to you, the wine ready to be poured when you are ready." The album has six songs, and "The Great Warding" is the first. It is pretty chaotic, and there is a good deal going on behind the scenes. The guttural vocals are really the only reminder that you are listening to Extreme Metal, and the production is very high in the treble clef. There is a loose structure to the music.

"Draped in Abyssal Fire" is a shorter song, with a little less chaos; there is more of a song structure here. In all of the unique styles of vocals you can hear in Metal, this one is one of them. They are almost whispers, but with a deep rattle. "Three Initiates Meet at the Cemetery Crossroads" begins with metallic sounds from a lot of cymbal crashes and a deep rumble of the vocals. The pace is steady, but picks up, with some guitar string bends. Chaos grows nearly through the end, when the pace slows again. "The Hag's Lamentation" is a short blast of three-minute energy where everything is in fast mode. Again, the pace slows to an open note burst, followed by some spastic lead guitar work. Although it seems like noise, this is music, and the artist's interpretation of the medium.

"Meditation on Azoth" is another short song packed to the gills. Spoken words alternate with harsh vocals, and the song is dismally dissonant. The 16-minute opus called "Backward Down the Thorny Path" closes the album. A subdued melody like runs through the song, but what is packed around it are spastic leads, gutturals, and a good deal of chaos. Close to the five-minute mark, a more traditional sound appears. Sebastian is clearly capable of writing these elements, but it appears he chooses chaos and amorphous sounds over more easily digestible ones. From there, more dissonant and dark tones dominate.

In the realm if I,Voidhanger Records, for those who don't know, there are many mysteries. "Thorn Genesis" is one of those. Although the Extreme Metal sound is somewhat familiar, you will find it marked with heavy dissonance, and other frightening tones. Taken as a whole, it's hard to discern patterns in the music, although as an artist, this is his personal interpretation of the medium.Purchase Link:
