Nine Lives
Atack
Atack Is the new project and debut album from one of the UK’S in demand session players Keith Atack who was performing at the age of 16 at the legendary Marquee Club in London with the band Child ,over the next 30 years Keith toured the world with Bonnie Tyler, Rick Astley and many others. In 2022 Keith decided to go back to the classic rock which he loves and called on some well known musicians to join him. Joining him on this project is Chris Child a member of Thunder since 1996 and also tours with Tyketto. The vocals are provided by Lee Small who recorded with Shy and current member of Sweet. Bob Richards who did some deputising on drums for two video singles for AC/DC with well renowned session player Nick Foley completing this bands line up on the Hammond Organ.
The album starts with off with “Dead Man’s Boots” a little organ intro then this absolutely fantastic rocking , guitar riff kicks in and we are off in come some superb vocals it’s a superb track, this carries on with some strong vocals, drums and soaring guitar solo .I love the Hammond Organ it sound really cool it gives the track blues and soul with that classic rock sound .Next up with have the first single “Ain’t got Nine Lives” which carries on the superb opening track its an absolute rocker vocally and musically its a master class in classic rock how it should be done like the greats of Deep Purple and Rainbow. ”The Seven Seas” is another fantastic example of this. One of my favourite tracks on the album is “Remember Or Forget” it’s a bit slower its more bluesy the whole arrangement of the song, lyrics and vocals are so cool, the guitar solo reminds me of the great, late Gary Moore.” Like A Twister Blowing Through” is just like the title of the song it’s faster rocking track with a great organ riff and solo, which is blended beautifully in with the guitar riffs and solo, finished off with some great drums it’s almost like a musical face off expert musicianship again and vocally superb .”My New Addiction” , “Stone Cold” and also “Poison Water” are three more great tracks which sound to me like they have the modern southern rock of Black Stone Cherry and that classic rock feel of Whitesnake and Thunder. All three of them are earworm songs ,you just cannot help but appreciate how great they really are ,also such a tight playing unit as a band. ”This House” is slows the album down ,a ballad with such maturity, conviction and again superb guitars from Keith Atack ,Lee Small’s vocals soar on this track and yet another highlight on the album .”The End Of The World “ cranks up the volume again ,then “You Lie To Me” closes the album both great tracks again my head and feet are going superb.
This album was an absolute pleasure to listen to.Keith Atack has got together with four very good musicians which in turn has produced an absolutely fantastic album of classic rock and pure brilliance. Their experience shines through in droves, the superb guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and outstanding vocals come together with the great production .I thoroughly enjoyed this album it will be spun a lot for sure highly recommended,
