Asphyx - Incoming Death album cover

Metal maniacs, rejoice! The Thrasher returns to present to you, ASPHYX; signed via Century Media, hailing from the Netherlands - performing Death/Doom Metal, and on their 9th studio album entitled: "Incoming Death".

Since formation in 1987, the quintet in question has 8 albums behind them; "Incoming Death" (released on September 30th, 2016) is my first acquaintance and my first listen got me immediately hooked by the sheer intensity the quartet provides. Upon research, I discover that ASPHYX are a Death/Doom Metal band, and the fusion is an uncanny presentation of unprecedented balances in the differences of Metal. Featuring ultra-loud instrumentation of Death Metal quality; that begs one to bang the noggin of yours, as well as an atmospheric yet blindingly crushing enticement of Doom Metal elegance in which adds more exciting elements of brutal intentions. It's quite evident that the band comprises in expertly crafted contributions to said sub-genres, and the record in question cites this feature with profession in mind. With founding member Bob Bagchus (ex-drummer) exiting the band, veteran fans may wonder what's in store for their future...

...And that is a destructive force of powerful musicianship and instrumentation. While Bob Bagchus was primary songwriter - said duty is now left in the capable hands of guitarist Paul Baayans, who delivers stellar riffery in his offering. Drummer replacement is none other than, Stefan Hüskens, who showcases complex dexterity and a distinctive flair of bludgeoning pummeling; I welcome this entry profusely. Alwin Zuur exempts a similar role, adding captivating audibility in his work. And lastly, Martin van Drunen on vocals, efficiently subjects himself to dynamic proficiency in guttural mayhem that is most certainly not for the faint of heart. "Incoming Death" shares 11 solid tracks in which ranges at around 47:42 long. After enjoyably repeated listens, I can safely say that without a biased opinion, ASPHYX are prominent contenders for a Death-Doom 2016 album of the year.

"Candiru" opens the record up with consistency to the sub-genres with cryptic interference for an atmospheric ride full of killer sound production and stunning clarity of musical integrities. "Division Brandenburg", "Wardoid" & "The Feeder", all share similarities that extend the experience to an unprecedented form of memorable yet original destruction. "It Came From The Skies", "The Grand Denial" & "Incoming Death", are quintessential ASPHYX gems in which ascends more qualities of Death-Doom harmonies and explosive melodies. The last 4 tracks of the album – "Forerunners Of The Apocalypse", "Subterra Incognita", "Wildland Fire" & "Death: The Only Immortal", adapt top-tier performances from the whole band and distinguishes troublesome thought processes from said consumer. Overall, a resounding record that excels itself consistently all throughout and gives you that unparalleled discovery of brutal proportions.<
