Arkham Witch - Legions Of The Deep album cover

Lovecraft, one of the greatest horror writers to have ever lived, has inspired several bands and songs in the world of Heavy Metal, which it is not really difficult to understand considering his master description of nightmarish horrors and otherworldly existences, off the top of my head I can name "The Call of Ktulu", the best METALLICA instrumental of all time, "The Thing That Should Not Be" and "All Nightmare Long", as well as "Behind The Wall of Sleep", from the almighty BLACK SABBATH, "Dagon's Blood" by DAWN OF WINTER, "The Crawling Chaos" and "Shadow out of Time" by the German power-metallers RAGE. Taking its name from one of Lovecraft's stories, England's Doom Metal act ARKHAM WITCH delivers an album full of awesome Lovecraftian inspired Metal songs.

For starters let me acknowledge the amazing artwork featured in the booklet, especially the beautiful drawing that depicts three of my favorite stories by this amazing author. Musically they can be described as playing a form of early 80s Metal imbued with a Doom Metal type of feel to the songs. With amazing guitar works and vocal melodies, my favorite songs have got to be "David Lund", "At the Mountains of Madness", "Iron Shadows In The Moon"... actually thinking it right now all songs are fucking awesome, maybe with the exception of "We're From Keighley", which I guess is some kind of anthem of pride for being born in Keighley and since I wasn't born in Keighley that didn't matter much to me, don't get me wrong, it is a great song but the lyrics aren't very relatable for me so it becomes that one songs that tends to be skipped.

In conclusion, if you are, like me, a fan of Lovecraft or a fan of Doom Metal I highly recommend you check this amazing album that became a last minute addition in my list of Top 10 albums of 2012.
