ARKHAM WITCH is a Heavy/Doom Metal band based out of Keighley, United Kingdom. This is a re-issue of their 2012 album, which was their second full-length release, and contains ten tracks. "David Lund" has a plodding, semi-distorted riff that is unchanged, and for me is reminiscent of some of the founding fathers in the Metal genre, like BLACK SABBATH mated with RAINBOW with SAXON on their mind. The vocals are mid-range for the most part, and have a marching rhythmic quality to them. An overall atmosphere of Gloom hangs in the air. "Iron Shadows of the Moon" bounces with the feet of the bass guitar notes and a main riff that could have come from the well of Toni Iommi as he prepared to write some of his earlier material. Dynamics are what seems to be the most obviously limited part of this sound.

"Infernal Machine" has a differential sound to a degree, with vocal shouts that sound like a battle cry, and a riff that registers in the lower range. In the verses I hear a pattern that reminds me of some SEX PISTOLS but the chorus definitely does not. "The Cloven Sea" has a riff with a little more presence in terms of notes but the ever repeated pattern does get verbose at times, as does the consistently hasty quality of the vocals, kind of like the entire album is at perpetual war and each anthem is reflective of that. "On a Horse Called Vengeance" begins with the horse making its way stealthily to its destiny via a slow build-up and then reaping its vengeance, as the riff doubles in speed to which there is no escape. There is a back and forth of these two different meters which gives exclamation to the lyrical message. "Gods of Storm and Thunder" might be the perfect title and sound to sum up the musical style here. It's another lucid riff with minimal changes and made easy to understand that makes you want to take up arms with your brothers and lay waste to your enemy the old fashioned way...hand to hand.

The title track, "Legions of the Deep," has a little more presence due to the galloping nature of the riff which features palm muted open notes that are swiftly picked. The chorus really reflects strongest perhaps this overall ambiance of conquering battle that is woven throughout the album. The closing song is "We're From Keighley," which is the more fun song on the album, as the opening lyrics ring "Eat a Bowl of Fuck, I Came Here to Party." I think the husky nature of this party song might best be enjoyed live, in an intimate pub with your mates. A lot of these songs were very horizontal in terms of sticking on the line and not deviating out much. I think fans of early AC/DC and BLACK SABBATH with a hankering for some fantastical themes would find this to their liking.<
