Any Given Reason

Unsigned bands are making waves in the metalcore scene, and among them is ANY GIVEN REASON from the UK. Formed just this past year, they've already made appearances in the festival scene such as Download Festival as well as many local shows. Amassing numbers through their presence on Facebook, it's refreshing to see them build up their image within the metalcore community and the like. Their debut EP "Alpha" is set to be released June 23rd.
Because the metalcore genre has expanded heavily over the past year or so, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly where ANY GIVEN REASON may fall on the map. Metalcore bands nowadays stretch the genre this way and that with the rise of groups like SLEEP TOKEN and DAYSEEKER, but it allows for a lot of flexibility on a band's discography. The combined vocal styles of Cooper and Silence instantly make their sound very recognizable. If you pushed the vocals a smidge to the left, they could easily be considered deathcore with some tracks like "So Far" and "Army of Clowns" actually reminding me a bit of LORNA SHORE as each track is dynamic with gothic undertones, heavy on the Death metal-style guitar riffs and high tempo drums. The second track "State of Mentality" takes place as my favorite off this debut EP as it gives me BAD OMENS circa 2016 vibes.
This is definitely a strong start for ANY GIVEN REASON with this debut showcasing their strong sense of musicality and vocal style. It would be difficult for me to suggest their music to one particular type of metalcore listener, but as one must, as a supporter of the arts and the genre, I'd recommend any fan to give them a listen to see where they fit in anyone's playlist essentials. It'll be amazing to see how this band evolves and grows over time.
