ANGRA! Here's a band that has literally kept the interest of the media on a high level throughout their entire career - and not only because of their music, but also for the family turbulence that led to the shredding of the band in two. Still those who remained in ANGRA kept working hard and made a great comeback with the very good Rebirth (in my opinion this was however an inferior work compared with release of the other half of the band that released the excellent Ritual under the moniker SHAMAN).
Last year however the band returned to the top with the amazing Temple Of Shadows - a superb album with flashy compositions. In my opinion Temple Of Shadows was nearly as good as the band's best work till today - their debut Angel's Cry. So did the band manage to keep up the high score with Aurora Consurgens? Let's see...
Aurora Consurgens is different. One can say that this is the heaviest work of ANGRA. Indeed there's a point to it: considering this is a loose concept album where all songs rotate about the lost of interest towards life and suicidal thoughts the band has a solid base to get guitar frenzy. This cannot be considered a U turn towards the band's sound: still one can find all those elements that gave ANGRA the extra push they needed but it's more than obvious that this album is guitar dominated. Kiko Loureiro and Rafael Bittencourt really set their guitars on fire and deliver some true head-banging tunes like The Voice Commanding You, Window To Nowhere or the massive and technical Scream Your Heart Out.  
This is definitely a nice surprise to me. ANGRA managed to turn their attention towards a heavier sound and that's always cool when you consider your shelf a metal band. Power metal needs bands like ANGRA.
