Hailing from Milan, Italy, the quartet ANEWRAGE formed in 2009. They released their debut album in 2014, and the signed to Scarlet Records in 2016. "Life-Related Symptoms" is their first release on the new label, and contains thirteen tracks. Touted as "Alternative Metal/Post-Grunge," the band is noted for an impressive stage presence. The Alternative and Grunge genres rose and fell very quickly in the 1990's, and are far enough in the rear-view mirror to not invoke hatred from die-hard Metal fans, who were not happy with the loss of press during those dark years. ANEWRAGE however is far enough removed from this mess and are playing their own style of music that the genre descriptions really aren't well at defining. It is modern, fresh and invigorating.

The album has plenty of energy and attitude, and a nice combination of straight sounding Hard Rock/Metal tracks and programming that give it a modern edge. Truthfully, they leave most of the Grunge elements behind, though the vocals approach that area at times. On many of the songs, they let the melody shine brightly which fills the listener with warmth. Some of the highlights of the album for me start with the positive vibes of "My Worst Friend," which pushes a memorable chorus; the softer, breezy tones of "Tomorrow," which hint at the promise of a new day; the heavy bite of "Evolution Circle," which offers some nice background support via the programming and some dual vocal harmonies that sound trippy; the odd and eclectic riff in "The 21st Century," that has some great rhythmic changes; the tender melodies in "Outside," that you cannot help but to want to sing along with; the guitar work in "All The Way," which features a lively riff and notes that bounce in and about, giving the song a welcomed airy feeling; and the closing track "Wolves And Sirens," which seems to capture many of the various elements of the album into one cohesive track.

The best part about the album is the diversity of the tracks, while maintaining a core sound that you can identify. I can also see how well the music would translate into a live show and energize a frenzied crowd with positive vibes and feel-good tunes. I am not sure that I would be quick to label this as anything in particular, other than just good Rock music. Give it a spin and decide for yourself.
