From the self-proclaimed city of rock Eindhoven (The Netherlands) comes a new sensation in heavy music. AN EVENING WITH KNIVES. They are a three men strong band armed with all the weaponry rock has to offer. The members all come from different musical backgrounds adding to the arsenal. They bring to the stage a layered and energetic sound with unexpected turns. Where the wall of sound falls down into a sea of tranquility, they always keep it dark, heavy, and captivating. For those people who want to categorize, think Post Metal, Post Rock, and Stoner Doom. "Sense of Gravity" contains seven tracks.

"Sacrifice" leads off the album. Hushed clean guitars turn to a heavy and dark riff, definitely in the Stoner Doom category. The vocals are semi-clean but have an edge to them. It has the simplicity of BLACK SABBATH, with big guitar riffs and some harmonized vocals. "Escape" opens with fuzzy bass notes and then the guitar and vocals hit you hard. The riff is ultra-heavy and steam rolls ahead, with fervor and purpose. They are also able to weave in some supporting outside sounds as well. "Levitate" is a shorter and faster moving song, clocking in at under three minutes. The heavy riff is absolutely driven home.

"Turn the Page" is another lumbering, riff driven track, with solemn tones and a darkness that threatens to swallow the very world. But there is not much diversity on the album so far. "On your Own" is the longest song on the album, at over seven minutes in length. It opens slowly and cautiously. When the main riff drops, it's closer to hope than despair. Lead guitar notes help to keep it in the light. This is the diversity that has been missing so far. Showing that Doom can be versatile, I really like the positive tones of this song. "Endless Night" hits you hard with a heavy riff out of the gates, and some wah-wah in the guitars. This song definitely represents the darker side of the genre.

"Every Ordinary Day" closes the album. It's more of a reminder of our doleful existence, going to work every day and doing laundry on the weekends. Rise and repeat. Most of our lives are very ordinary, and this song points out grey skies and clouds. Overall, though this isn't the type of Doom you haven't hear before, it's done with precision and soul. The riffs strike just at the right time, and his edgy, snarling vocals are well-done. I don't however really hear much in the way of Post-Rock/Metal, but that is neither here nor there. Doom fans will surely find this to their liking.
