Greek Black Metal band AMBROTOS has only existed for a short span of about two years. "Cosmic Annulus" is their second EP, where the band uses their tortured souls to craft an electrifying, dangerous three-track work of Extreme Metal. Not in the territory of breaking barriers, the band sure has a long way to go before they have find their musical direction. Vocalist Vaggelis pursues a painful journey through his vocal performance - which is confident and croaky, fitting in with the atmospheric tendencies given off by the electric guitars. Percussionist Humberto is straight to the point in terms of his modest and steady playing, differentiating from pummelling and loud, to gentle and dainty enough to match up with the spine tingling spoken word in Vortical.
AMBROTOS is yet another band with a future in the world of Extreme Metal. Their spirit and musicianship does not fall short as they attempt to create malicious, spiteful music that comes straight from their souls. They are nothing you haven't heard before, but they succeed to obtain the experimental and atmospheric vibe that can be spotted in a wide variety of Black Metal bands; with both elements executed firmly with little noticeable flaws. It's an interesting start, with well composed tracks that will leave the listener wanting more. However, it is up to the band to live up to the listener's expectations, which could mean the difference between gaining and losing an interested fan.
