Fearless
Alter Eden
ALTER EDEN is an Alternative Rock/Metal band based out of the United Kingdom. As far as I can tell, this is the band's debut EP, and contains six tracks. "All Hail the King" leads us off. It has a raucous energy and definitely features that "Post Grunge" Alternative sound. The main riff drives the overall composition and the vocals are yelled/screamed in mostly upper ranges. More than overall melody, the song focuses on dissonance and minor chords. "Broken" has a more rhythmic and emotional quality, with a big chorus. This is a shining moment on the album, in my opinion. "Fade" showcases the simplicity of songwriting in this genre. You don't need to say too much to get across the feeling that they do in this track. Once again, the main riff and the anguished vocals drive the sound. "Let's be Fearless" circles back around to the emotive nature of the album. Though I would not call this a "ballad" per se, it definitely puts forth a slower and more introspective feeling. "Scream at the Sky" has a tentative opening with some spoken word. This is a moody piece where the lyrics and overall vocal performance take center stage. You can literally feel his lamentations. "Crosses" closes the album. This track also has a dark and ominous quality, and the instrumentation is on full display in a thick, melodious way. Overall this is an honest first effort from the band. Through six tracks I believe they have stamped their sound well enough to create a niche that you can easily identify. I must confess that I prefer the darker, more moody and emotional tracks that really convey the feeling well to the listener. They also have a nice energy to go along with their style.<
