All Hail The Night
All Hell
We have a black/thrash metal trio known simply as ALL HELL, a trio who hail from North Carolina, USA and they have been together now since 2013 as they first released a demo in that same year with three tracks altogether before they came to releasing their debut album in 2014 which was titled THE DEVIL'S WORK. This album contained twelve tracks and was released independently and it wasn't long til their next release which was their second album titled THE RED SECT as it came out the year after in 2015 through Horror Pain Gore Death Productions with a total of ten tracks. In the year of 2017, the bands' third studio album, THE GRAVE ALCHEMIST was officially released through Prosthetic Records as this album contained twelve tracks as did their debut album, their sound had certainly evolved over time.
Furthermore they also played at a few festivals in this time as they made a lot of progress and began achieving much praise for their three albums so far, they also embarked on touring as well as playing at the festivals like Shadow Woods Metal Festival, Decibel Metal & Beer Festival, Dark Lord Day and Destruction Metal Festival. In 2019, they came to releasing their next album which was their fourth studio release titled THE WITCH'S GRAIL and then came more touring on the road for the band as they joined fellow metal group RINGWORM as well as BLACK TUSK for more touring in 2020. But then of course came the global pandemic in 2020, the band were waiting in anticipation as they began to focus more on songwriting as they were not able to tour or play live with anyone.
The band began playing live again in the Autumn of 2021, then they also began touring again by the time Summer of 2022 came by. Now the band have come to team up with Terminus Hate City Records to release their EP earlier this year in April titled ALL HAIL THE NIGHT which also featured a guest appearance by NATHAN GARNETTE of the band SKELETONWITCH. This new EP can be seen as a representation of the 'potent fusion of the band's past, present and future, and represents the liminal space in which it was conceived and recorded. It is a declaration and a warning - ALL HELL have returned, and they are more vicious than ever'. The EP starts with "Black Weather Wings" as thumping drums come in to allow the guitars to also open up the track with those dark insinuating vocals begging for mercy as they are scorned with blackened thrash metal tone.
Vocals spitting out words of condemnation and mass hysteria as the track takes a very upbeat tempo with that element of punk, fast drums and riveting guitar riffs to portray this side of the track very well. Even a guitar solo with drums on the killer rampage gives vocals a time to breath before the return again as the climax builds with all instruments in a full band unison charging into the next track which is "Neon Babylon". As we hear a very eerie sound effect before the onslaught comes with all elements burning with desire and purpose, as the drums are very confident in laying down the foundations for guitar and vocals to pour over their contributions.
The track certainly has its themes of horrors and death as the bass guitar and electric guitars give that daunting sense of insecurity and vocals showing their way of conjuring up occultic imagery as they do this very well. The track is fairly simple, there is no let down but we do have a short section for guitars and drums to express the darker and more sinister side of this track as we come to the next track which is "Let The Night Run Red". This third track has a pulsating vibe to it with drums especially and they clatter as they go along with vocals belting out those black metal screeches displaying their hunger for domination and control. Guitars become more of a shadow in this track but they do come to the fore when the vocals permit them to do so.
The track is certainly heavy and has a lot of density to it as well, the tempo isn't fast, it is more pulled back then before and has more space for each instrument to have their own part in the audio spectrum. Cymbal hits and guitar then leads us into the next track which is "Suffer For Me" as the tempo is brought up to a more deadly and attacking speed, with drums leading the pack for a head on collision course. This is a short two minute track which could be seen maybe as a chance to allow all instruments to go wild and in complete disarray as the tone has so much depth and precision with so much force or projection too. "Breaker" comes straight in with a killer guitar riff as well as thrashing drums that are out of bounds, going beyond their call of duty.
Another track that is short and sweet, as this is only a minute long and certainly an interesting pathway to the final track, as we hear vocals throwing its heart and soul into all the madness that has been created by the guitars and drums. "Devilwolf" is the last and final track of this very intriguing EP as we hear an atmospheric cry of a wolf in the background with guitars sustaining notes with cymbal hits, then the thrash and punk influences come back in one last time. There is a focus and highlight of the lyrical content and the title of the track, the band is giving everything it has now for this last track which is just over two minutes long but still leaves a good impression on the listener.
So there we have it, an EP after a four year break for the band while Covid-19 was preventing them from playing gigs and was a good opportunity for songwriting which certainly paid off, the EP is good and has a lot of thrash and black metal as they promised. Even the length of each track and speed of one or two tracks do potentially have the punk side of the band we probably don't hear too much of. So I can certainly see this band go on to produce more of the same and perhaps this could be the encouragement they need to get another album written. We shall wait and see, but great EP, so well done guys.
