Aerodyne - Damnation album cover

This is the second album from the Gothenburg Sweden Traditional Heavy Metal Band. Ah yes another band from the legendary second-largest city of all of Sweden! Back in the early to mid-nineties, so many bands came out of this city and shook the foundations of Metal all over the world. This album will be released to the grand public on the 18th of October and for you old-schoolers out there, it will also be released on good old vinyl!

First of all, I have to admit that I choose my reviews by genre, if something strikes me at first glance (usually Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal amongst others), well I am drawn towards those bands. I saw Heavy Metal as a genre, even though it's pretty freaking vague, I went for it and boy was I blown away by this band.

I didn't know at first hand that this band was from Sweden to be honest. I don't really care where the band comes from and as for gathering information for the review, I do it at the tail end of my first or second listen. At first glance, I though this band was very reminiscent of ENFORCER. The attitude, the style of music and the blending of Hard Rock, Traditional Heavy Metal and a dash of Glam Rock for good measure. Look, it maybe because I just saw them in concert on the 30th of September (on my 38th birthday) but I felt the similarities were pretty obvious.

They mix a lot of styles together and really meshes well. You have that double guitar combo that reminds you of the earlier Bruce Dickinson-led IRON MAIDEN albums (especially ''Piece of Mind'', ''Somewhere in Time'' and ''Powerslave''. This album is very guitar driven and a lot of riffs are reminiscent of these awesome albums from the legendary band.

Some songs are a bit interchangeable but that does not change the fact that this album is one of the very best albums I have heard this year. It's an ode to the Traditional Heavy Metal bands I grew up listening to but with an updated attitude adjustment. They seem to be touring more and more in Europe and South America. I wouldn't mind seeing them in Canada, they might not be as good as ENFORCER but they deliver on all fronts.
