Aeon Aphelion - Aeon Aphelion EP album cover

AEON APHELION's case impressed me as much as WISHDOOM did, 2 years ago as debutante band with the release of the "Up The Hammers" demo. Now, it's time for another Greek six-feet-underground beginner to grab the reins and show us what he's got inside his doomy and eerie veins, making his first courageous steps under the sounds of pure and solid Doom Metal with some great inputs of PARADISE LOST's deathly past and ANATHEMA's early dark despair; just think for a moment how tempting that is for your 'suffering' ears! The self-titled Ep of AEON APHELION is one of those occasions that all Greeks are proud to have in their bowels and the publicity to break the inside borders, is the least we can do.

During the 30 minutes of this private release, you won't be able to find a single boring moment, even an indifferent one; those guys have worked very hard, and also, it seems to love music so badly that the positive result is more than obvious. The starting "Urn For The Ashes Of Gods" fluctuates on a familiar SOLITUDE AETURNUS-esque tempo, enhanced with the perfect growling despair, capable to rise any fucking hair of your body. The quaver bass line gives the right pass to the guitar solos and the almost 7 minutes of it prepares the ground properly for the up tempo "Scythe And Straw" putting the influencesof Nick Holmes' reading in front of the song's doomy mood.

Nevertheless, "Embraced In Wings" still remains one of my favourite tracks because of its lyricism and the successful combination between early MY DYING BRIDE atmosphere with CIRITH UNGOL epic musical dimension. However, the lasts "Womb Stone" and "Of The Horned Wolves" put the foundation stone in AEON APHELION tuning tomb with the remarkable backing vocals of Ms. Eri Manoura and the ethereal scent that a female addition gives to the whole music effort, without being overreacted. The CD is already finished and the 'repeat' button is the only salvation.

Dear sirs of the global discographic companies, if you read this lines, make yourselves a favour and listen to "Aeon Aphelion" Ep before is too late (you can check band's MySpace: www.myspace.com/aeonaphelion); somebody else may do this instead of you and then, you might lose an ascensive and truly promising band that perform all the conditions to stay in the music firmament.

"I welcome you in arts of worship,
A fever bleeding blessing
from your skin"
