"Witchtanic Hellucinations" is the debut album of the American psychedelic, Doom / Death Metal band (something like that or maybe just witch Metal?) ACID WITCH that was released back in 2008 and now it is being re-released. Since then they have released another full length album and two EPs.

The album includes 13 songs of songs of doom and death metal amalgam with psychedelic elements and deep guttural vocals. The way the music is mastered sounds like a band that plays from inside a boiling cauldron of a witch and the vocals are the bubbles that pop on the surface. Out of the 13 songs, three are instrumental and mostly are a mass of random guitar sounds or some psychedelic keyboards. The lyrics are about witches, cauldrons, spells, rituals and actually include a full repertoire of activities a sexually active witch in her late 1000s might include in her filthy agenda. One title that really stuck into my mind though is "Witches Tits" - I think I it might turn out into a fetish for me. I also found less boring than the rest "Witchblood Cult" and the sympathetic closing track "October 31st".

The music is not something quite memorable in most parts. Actually I was trying to find something interesting in this record and it was as hard as dropping a ring in a cauldron and then having to look for it by putting your hand inside the pulp. The production is quite rotten, presumably in an effort to create a hallucinating evil feeling. The compositions are mediocre, the guitar riffs are dull and only some keyboards and guitar leads somehow try to save the whole thing. The vocals are of the type that I could never bear especially with that kind of Metal genre.

So to cut a long ritual recipe short, "Witchtanic Hellucinations" is a record that I will never bother to listen to while heating up my cauldron. Be it my lack of taste for horny witches, Psychedelic Death Metal macabre or swamp rituals or just this just being a mediocre record I will just pass. Proceed only if you don't mind sucking the tits of the ACID WITCH for the rest of your life.
