Abyssum - Poizon of God album cover

Metal maniacs, rejoice! I am proud to present to you: ABYSSUM; signed via The Sinister Flame, hailing from Central American grounds - performing Guatemala Black Metal, on their sophomore release entitled: "Poizon of God" (released January 22nd, 2021).

Since formation in 1993; the duo in question have 6 Demos, 3 Splits; 2 Live Album, 1 Compilation; 1 EP, 1 Split Video, and 3 Full-Length Albums in their discography so far. I am introduced to their 2nd offering entitled: "Poizon Of God" first released through Medieval Music Productions, re-released with The Sinister Flame. 7 tracks ranging at around 33:31; ABYSSUM arrange an intricately designed formula on some heavy-hitting Black Metal developments.

Opening up with this dark but blackened and otherworldly atmosphere, a daunting hymn of synthesized eeriness aligned with this cosmetic ambience entrances eardrums until merging this savagely sinister yet majestic malformation that rifts with thunderous magnitudes in Black Metal mayhem not long after. "A Cold Whisper Behind the Cosmos'' ensues a gritty calamity in blistering distortion, amalgamating majestic yet ominously extreme instrumental impact in between the spacious melody which unearths mesmerising roars & riffing subjugation that revels with rhythmic trailblazing while skyrocketing with a borderline foundation in barraged frenzies intertwined with this lofty execution in constructively creative but foreboding immensity. Distilling a uniquely vehement slab of solid yet monolithic symbolism, as "The Sacred Abyss... (...of Thelemic Mysteries)" unleashes steamrolling noise terror with sulfurous retribution warped with this occult of supernatural aesthetics empowered within.

Consisting of Ebvleb who performs on all instruments bar drums; the multitasker showcases this seamless profanity in bludgeoning blasphemy. Vocals surge with throaty raspiness, tight bellows and deep gutturals growl intensely...bleeding into a primitively raw maelstrom of strong yet mystifying manifestations while his guitars fret a dexterously diligent foundation on ripping yet rusty substance & wildly rushing virtuosity on quintessential pandemonium that slays with vibrantly nimble yet rapidly swift quirkiness. His audible bass injects an infectiously venomous thump on rompy rampancy, ramified with this profusely robust synergy that rumbles with reverberating meatiness. Lasting at a mighty 9:24 belter in bruising but clobbering demoncy, an evil but agonising presence shrouds speakers with organic sturdiness while thudding these relentless strums that materialises a flexible fundamental in punchy vertigo maintaining persistent firepower expertise...as mid-portion of the track fades all of this away before bringing it all back again with symphonious impact.

"Laugh Close to Me, at Your Creation" is a 2:00 interlude of haunting cries, converging a demented hymn in operatic torment. Making use of the keyboards here, while stark yet unhinged moans portray a crazed but lunatic spectrum until "Illusion of Pan (The Spirit of the Woods)" transitions these traits with meticulous yet salubriously volatile cohesion. Colliding battering drum slams with rambunctious piledriving snares from Akherra, as hasty hostility culminates chugging and galloping velocity with visceral perseverance. Striking with stompy pursuits on steely precision, jarring yet tormenting yells continue brimming with these aggressive howls implementing a hybrid experimentation in grinding laceration and killer mobility patterns flow a frightening but towering momentum on triggering but alarming madness that shrieks with vicious versatility.

"Laments of Mystic Lands" is another short passage of wind, and a distinctive acoustic element in which spellbinds souls for a brief reprieve until more fearsome follys volley this eccentric flair in fluidly polished yet progressively technical tribulations within the penultimate "Be Thou Damned Forever". A Black Metal ritual that outbursts with satanic prowess, and climatic but desolate resonance that tempestuously scours with flamboyant finesse in complexly crafted yet mountainous machinations of densely imperious deadliness. Until the overall concluding finisher "In Darkness We Will Forever Be..." completes this record with yet another distinguished but synthesized soundscape that embodies an eclipsing but perpetual sensation of sublimity and demeaning segregation.

Bottom line; I am compelled to say that ABYSSUM certainly outdone themselves for a second release, a captivating spectacle of wicked talent and a fuelled detail of monotonous yet radically potential thrills await here. An enjoyably entertaining experience, articulating a detailed conundrum in this archaic Guatemala Black Metal spectral that will transfix you with enthralling but gripping intrigue that makes this one definitely a worthy spin or 2.
