This Album is as brutal as they come, an amazing work of that branch of music often referred to as Death Metal, that as you my enlightened reader might agree, is not for the general ear.
A depiction of how peeking into hell is not always such a bad experience, if you come up with a record like this. Originally from Perm Russia, ABORTED FETUS release their fifth full length album this year, entitled "the Art of Violent Torture". Founded in the year 2000 in the cold regions near the Ural Mountains, this band depicts an outstanding form of achieving the sound created in the sunshine state and delivers not only a fulfilling album for the death metal fans worldwide, but also an example of how every genre finds a host in different talented instrumentalists and virtuosos around the world, and this genre specifically is not without numerous adepts all around the globe.
The musical prowess needed by a performer of death metal if often not acknowledged by those that limit themselves to excluding a form of art (because that is what it it) because it goes beyond the boundaries of what they consider beautiful, sublime or even tolerable; ignoring that one of the most important characteristics of this band is the stamina needed to perform it. I would like to dare anyone calling death metal a deficient form of music to withstand playing the double bass drum tracking of one of the songs in this album, specially "Blinded by the Flame", In the same way "Awaiting" works as a look into a different part of the creativity of the band, and collaborates perfectly with the rest of the record.
As always, the cover art is completely shocking for those susceptible to gore, but then again history is a far cruder example of the lethal capabilities of mankind, and as hypocritical as it may seem, no one likes to be reminded of this, and that is probably the essence of death metal and the meaning of a record like The Art of Violent Torture, not to let us know of our mortality and the frailty of peace. A work of great lengths, this thirteen-track record is the perfect example of how healthy metal is nowadays with the sky as the limit for the current bands enjoying technological tools and communications resources that old-school bands couldn't have even imagined, a great time to be alive for all of us who love metal and all its branches, welcome to the vaults of the Metal Temple.
