Abhor - Sex Sex Sex (Ceremonia Daemonis Anticristi) album cover

ABHOR is an old school Black Metal band formed in Italy in 1995. To date, they have released seven full-length albums, and this is their eighth. From Bandcamp, "Unshackle thyself from the morals and mores of the modern world and return to more sinister and sinful times with ABHOR's "Sex Sex Sex (Ceremonia Daemonis Antichristi)." The album contains ten songs.

"The Curse of the Twins" is a brief opening leading to "Ceremonia Daemonis Anticristi." It features mostly ghastly organ notes and some backing vocal hums. The latter is also heavy on the organ notes and not the riffs, which is unusual for the genre. They also use the "Devil's fifth" riff made famous by BLACK SABBATH. The vocals vary from low, raspy grumbles to total guttural utterances. "Hail, Satan" the voice repeats. "At the Edge of the Circle" features another slow grind in the riffs and more of the "Devil's fifth" sound. It's supposed to be scary, and it is relatively, especially the organ notes. Who does them, I have no idea, because no one is credited for them on the album.

"Ode to the Snake" features a similar sound, with raspy vocals and a slow, grinding riff. The drummer double-times his pacing at times. The harrowing elements pick up here as well. This would frighten small children into believing about the "boogyman." "Evil Mentor" begins with spoken words, that sound like chants to summon the devil. The music is pretty similar to the other songs again with that "Devil's fifth" three-chord riff. "October 31st, 2010" is a very specific date. I scoured the internet for its meaning, and all I could come up with was a category two hurricane and some deaths from cholera. The music is again, pretty simple in its delivery.

"The Call" (Forti animo sum)" is a shorter number with doleful guitars and a solemn feeling of Doom. At one point, the vocals sound like they are coming from the bowels of Hell. "Violet Coven" is the very short closer, consisting mostly of organ notes and bass guitar. Overall, this wasn't a bad release, but it wasn't very good either. Although the sound was quite harrowing, many of the songs sounded similar, and that is probably the biggest sin one can commit when composing an album.
