Hailing from Norway, this quartet has had a buzz around them for a few years now. Well, they do offer very weird music, it's a mix of Progressive Rock mixed with alot of Pop music elements. They definitely are unique in their genre, I will give them that. They is no rhyme of reason in the music though, I felt it was very much uncoordinated. It was pretty much all over the place. I couldn't grasp a real rhythm or flow for this album.
Sometimes you have the instrumental parts that sound like older PORCUPINE TREE and something similar to a band like O.S.I. I guess it's not a bad comparison, but then again you have some like Pop Music elements thrown in there that just doesn't make any sense to me unfortunately. I like Pop Music sometimes, we all grew up with some sort of Pop Music because most commercial radio stations have their fair share of that type of music. I just felt the progressive music did not mesh well with the sudden changes in the genre. You have three songs that are really Pop Music, I'd say it's a poor man's WEEZER. I am not entirely sure if it's a compliment or the complete opposite. The singer has a higher voice than that particular singer but I felt it didn't fit well with the rest of the music played. The commercial sounding songs could be easy listening hits on commercial radios in North America and Europe.
I am not raining down on that parade, some like it and some don't. I read a few articles here and there on the band (because I couldn't find much information on the band) and some liken them to MARS VOLTA. Well MARS VOLTA is all over the place but there is a structure nonetheless. It's an eclectic band that does have some promise but the crossover between both styles is irritating. You try to enjoy the instrumental parts and bang, you get the high pitched voice and the happy go lucky sounds. I tried my best to listen to this album more than once and I had to skip the songs because I felt like I didn't want to continue. I felt discouraged because I couldn't put my heart in it, the first listen is always the most important and if you don't catch my eye or my interest, I won't be inclined to continue listening to the album. I have always been like this and that wont change. I tried my hardest but I felt this was an uneven release. Musically I thought there was some good elements here and there but the singer and the Pop Music elements just was too much to handle.
