It's Thursdays night and the Gagarin club got a visit from a crowd that was complex from some hardcore Heavy Metal fans, some younger fans, some friends but the common denominator to each one- they all came to a Heavy Metal show. This was a night of some very melodic piece of Metal and it was lead by
SWITCHBLADE, one of the strongest names in the oldschool Israel scene in these days.
The first band to come up was MOLAD, a Classic Hard Rock trio in their debut concert. For someone who was hearing for the first time, the band played some really great songs. What impressed me the most was the technicality of these songs and the ability of the three musician to play those songs. The only thing that I think that the band really needs to work on is their excitement in the show. I think that if the band will show a little smile to the crowd a little more movement than they could do a perfect show.
But the surprise of this night for me was REBURN, band that I had heard for the first time in the show and I found myself speechless about everything. They have so much energy and they know how to use it. Another thing that REBURN knows is how to communicate with the crowd, which is something that I think is very important. Mostly I liked the sound and the songs of the band that brought something modern together with something oldschool and classic.
By the end of the night we came to the main event - SWITCHBLADE. The band is on the stage and the all crowd is getting riled up in preparation for the song carrying the name of the debut - "Heavy Weapons". The band truly showed all of their energy only in "Infernal Paradice", we could see how much the band love this song.
When the band got the all crowd's attention they turn into the debut show of two songs from the band's upcoming album. The songs were darker than the band's debut and a lot more Progressive than New Wave. The highlight of this night was the performance of the band's greatest hit - "
Metalista". I think that everybody in the club, including the barman were singing with
Lior Stein the catchy lyrics of this song. Amazing energy was in the club and the band couldn't stop moving with the rhythm of the song.
The band went to get off from the stage but the crowd kept screaming for one more song. In the end the band gave up and they performed one more song which was a cover song for OZZY OSBOURNE's "Bark At The Moon".
In the bottom line, a really good Heavy Metal night which is giving hope to the genre in this country. The only thing that I can say that was the quality of the venue. I think that if we are in the center of the country we can find a better place than the Gagarin club, which has acoustics that gave me a headache. Still every band gave 200% from themselves and I hope to see them again in the future.
