Let's start with the 80's for a sec: I loved two things in the 80's: Glam Metal; yes I know it's not the popular to say that, however it was big thing back then. Please bear in mind that there were a few good bands even in the hated glam genre. However the second thing I loved was the pure attack of the Thrash Metal.

I will not go into a history lesson, yet I will provide some important information, Thrash Metal started around 1980 and was parallel to Glam metal; it was a genre for people who looked for more a aggressive style of riffing and music, everybody knows about the big four ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, METALLICA, and SLAYER, still there were some other great bands that stayed the course, bands like TESTAMENT, EXODUS and OVERKILL.

Let me also talk a little about the METALLICA issue, well-known to all; the band strayed from the real Thrash Metal sound in order to get more successful, in some ways also MEGADETH did that; this is what I call the money trail. Yet some bands, like I said stayed the course, one in particular OVERKILL, with a Thrash Metal career spanning over 30 years these Thrash Metal Gods are going to perform live in the first time in Israel.

The show took place in the Reading 3, well known for general shows and some metal shows, so you can understand that it's not my first time in this establishment.

However when I was parking my massive 125 cc Dealim in front of  the Reading 3 I thought that my eyes were deceiving me. The line of metal warriors was short, I was looking around to try and look for the gathering of the metal warriors but there was no gathering. I was asking myself, "is it possible that the metal fans in Israel that complains many a time about the lack of good and solid live shows in Israel from known bands will not come to see one of the most amazing bands that Metal music was able to produce?"

I will leave this question unanswered, you will have to answer it yourself.

In addition one more thing was obvious this time and that was that Prog-Stage Productions, the production agency that is responsible for many metal and rock live shows in Israel, did learn from their last mistake and opened the gates early to let the Metal warrior pour in, only that they more-so seemed to trickle, again the number astonished me and I was thinking to myself… "What the fuck?"

Nonetheless before the OVERKILL show we need to give some playing time to some local bands, people sometimes don't like the option for a band that comes on in order to fire up the crowd, however I think that this is important to give time for bands to show their ability to fans that probably will not have gone to see them otherwise.

First to come on stage were STRIDENT, never heard of them myself before. They're a four piece band that plays mix of Thrash Metal and some Death Metal, however it does seems that people in the crowd are aware of them. I find it hard to give any opinion on the band, yet I can tell you that the STRIDENT show was energetic and full of great riffs, I do think that the crowd agreed with me.

After STRIDENT left the stage, arriving were well-known buddies of mine, SWITCHBLADE. I saw them a few times on stage and I think that every time they do a live show they get better and better, even though they underwent some lineup changes the core band members did stay on board.

SWITCHBLADE are led by Lior "Steinmetal" Stein on vocals and Fede Taich on guitar. It seems that SWITCHBLADE came ready and all fired up, it seems that again and again people that hadn't seen the band play were amazed Lior's vocals ability and range, SWITCHBLADE even did a new song from their upcoming album, "When the Hunted Becomes the Hunter". It does seem that the guys from SWITCHBLADE  are evolving and getting into a more NWBHM heavy sound and it does suit them.

I never had a chance to relax from SWITCHBLADE; out of nowhere came HAMMERCULT to stage, I don't think I need to add anything about HAMMERCULT; one of the more successful Israeli bands out there, HAMMERCULT did a great job and give the fans there money worth, one more amazing thing they did is to fire up the crowd just before OVERKILL show.

After HAMMERCULT left the stage and I was waiting for OVERKILL I took my time to have a look around and I was very disappointed from the number of people in the club, the place was half empty. I don't think that a band in the magnitude of OVERKILL, a band that was part of the metal movement that influenced so much of today's Metal music deserve such attendance.

Nevertheless OVERKILL came to stage to the roars of the crowd and I can tell you that these guys come to work and when I say came to work, they came to kill all; what I mean is it was an overkill.

Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth on vocals needs no introduction, Bobby is a god among gods, the way he control the stage and the crowd is amazing; the biggest surprise for me was that is vocal abilities have not changed on stage like many other singers that are good only when recording. Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth was on full attack on the crowd and did what is nickname says, it was a vocal blitz like I have never seen.

OVERKILL did all of their classic tracks, starting with the amazing track from their latest album "Armorist" (one of my favorite songs of all time).

Shining near the blitz were Derek "The Skull" Tailer and Dave Linsk, both playing on the guitar and pouring hellfire on the crowd, they add an amazing sync with Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth, I didn't forget D.D. Verni one of the founding fathers of OVERKILL and with Bobby "Blitz" Ellswort the only true founding members, like always D.D. Verni was solid and in control, last but not least was Ron Lipnicki on the Drums; wow, that's what I can only say.

It was just like a thought it will be, OVERKILL came and delivered, no fuss just pure east coast Thrash Metal, like nobody does today. Yes, read it again: NOBODY does Pure Thrash Metal like OVERKILL, the funny thing in the middle of the show looking at Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth I understood is something that MANOWAR always says, "death to all but metal", and I like to say "death to all but true metal "; OVERKILL's show just emphasized that.

I can't let go of the feeling I had regarding the lack of fans and crowd, it  amazed me that people in Israel are always talking about the fact that there are no good metal shows and the moment some great band came to perform people stayed at home.

I will conclude and say, I saw OVERKILL and all the fuckers who didn't come to the show, it's your loss; remember what I said, I will stay witness for that and next time somebody will come to me and say, "dude, I saw a great show"; I will ask him where they were when OVERKILL performed in the Reading 3 on the 08.06.2015. Mark my words.
