Harry: Friday night and after a hard day at work I managed to catch an hour of sleep before driving to Fuzz Club to watch NEVERMORE once again. So relying at my luck on finding a parking spot, I left home just 20 minutes before the gig starting time. Arriving just 5 minutes before 9:00pm and parking a few meters away for the venue I entered the club to meet Panos (Yiannis was watching the concert from the loft, so it was quite hard to be located!)…and realized that there was no merchandise! Ok, NEVERMORE did throw some t-shirts to the crowd, but what about the rest of the fans?

Picking a good spot close to the photo pit, and after a small delay, the Greek quintet REX MUNDI were on stage in order to warm up the metalheads that have filled the venue quite early. The only thing I knew about this band was what I had listened in their MySpace page. REX MUNDI's music can be described as progressive Thrash-core Metal, a thing that it is not exactly my cup of tea. Nevertheless, all five of them seemed that they were having a good time and they managed to pass this feeling to the crowd, despite some sound problems. After some photo shooting I managed to go to the back of the venue to see if the sound was better but, alas, no! It was again all mixed up and couldn't listen to the guitars and the vocals. The band left the stage with a big and warm applaud by most of the metalheads, even though they also knew that they could do better. That's Ok. Next time, lads.

Yiannisd: It was time for the Seattle metallers to hit the stage and the whole venue was screaming the band's name! It was the third time I had the chance to watch NEVERMORE live and I was expecting to see a kickass performance from the band. Unfortunately, I had high hopes…

With a really bad sound (poor Sheppard was only "audible" during some breaks), a totally wasted Warrel Dane was constantly fucking up the songs by confusing the lyrics with a voice in a really bad shape while the rest of the band was trying to save the day, NEVERMORE probably didn't meet their fans' expectations. The setlist was not the best possible since many classics like "Next In Line", "What Tomorrow Knows", "Dreaming Neon Black" and more were absent but we had the chance to break our necks with hymns like "Narcosynthesis", "Inside Four Walls", "Born"

Even though Dane was dead drunk as I said above, the good thing is that there was generally a pretty nice vibe from the band's side, since they all seemed to enjoy it. Imagine something that looks more like a party than a live gig. The bad thing is that Dane's fuckups seems really "cute" at the beginning, but after 666 mistakes it stops being funny and ends up being boring, even irritating. Ok, enough with my bitching, let's get to the positive aspects of that night…

This was probably one of NEVERMORE's worst performances regarding the instrumentation of the songs etc, but it was definitely their most energetic performance ever on Greek ground! The venue was way worse than I imagined, but the quintet (including the extremely nice and smiling session guitarist Attila Voros) tried its best for everyone to have fun! And I guess that despite the "technical difficulties", everyone bang his/her head off with songs like "The Obsidian Conspiracy" (the new songs definitely sound better live) and "The Seven Tongues Of God", or sang along with"Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday" and "The Heart Collector". And yes, I am really proud to say that the Athenian audience was awesome once again!

Ok, it didn't suck that much, but I personally have high expectations from this band and they surely didn't meet them that very night. Resuming, on the one hand we have a really bad performance execution wise, but on the other hand we have five guys with smiles on their faces playing the music their fans love and having a great time! I heard many people leaving the venue fully satisfied, but I also heard people regretting the fact that they paid 30€ for this show. Anyway, not that bad but could surely be a lot better. Until next time fellows…
