It was a cool day in Tel Aviv, wait who am I kidding here, it was a freezing day in Tel Aviv and I had to muster all my strength and even dig into my closet deep in order to find my old friend, my leather jacket from the good old days. The only thing that got me moving is the promise of a good time or even great time has I embarked on my quest to see yet another great metal band that I have never seen live on stage , the quest is for the KING LIZARD and to drink from the Lizard Grail of Metal.

To all that probably or maybe don't know, KING LIZARD is the London's leading, trailblazing Sleaze Rock act, playing a mix of Heavy Metal with Glam and even Hard Rock and there explosive act is well known around the European continent, however I the quest to see them I had first to arrive at the Barby Club and to see some other bands perform, the road was treacherous, however I endured.

First band to perform was SENSATION DRIVE, a band that I heard about doing some Glam and Heavy. On the other hand, after a quick chat with the band I understood that they are changing their style to a more brutalized Metal or should I quote the words of their lead vocalist and guitar player Tomy Minas saying that "We are doing Metal for the open minded people". So I understood it like they are doing Metal for people who want to listen to Metal, I think!!!. On stage SENSATION DRIVE did lots of noise mixing some Traditional Metal with Black and Death Metal for an overall nice show. I got to say they did look like they enjoyed their own show and tried to get the audience into a mood for the upcoming features. Earlier I mentioned that is was freezing in Tel Aviv, yet the frostiness slowly melted with SENSATION DRIVE's showcase.

Only few minutes in the cold marked a surprising day for me, to the stage went up a band named THE GENDERS that seemed to radiant of charisma, to my astonishment it seems that they are relativly known to the local audience. THE GENDERS, according to their lead singer and very tall guitar player Amir Neubach, are playing Rock N' Roll, however I didn't know what hit me the moment they started playing an amazing mix of THE WHO, AC/DC, ROLLING STONES and all that great sound combined into a fusion of great Hard Rock. For a moment there, while THE GENDERS were playing, it seemed that the Frozen Barby Club finished melting and even heated up. Also on the setlist, there was an offbeat cover for AC/DC's classic "Highway To Hell" and I must admit, it was a hell of a cover. But the question still remains, what the fuck? How did it happen that I haven't heard about them earlier. Possibly that the answer rests with me over occupied by bands from over the sea than paying some attention to the local acts, shame on me, it won't happen again, rock on THE GENDERS.
And then came the KING, yes I mean the KING LIZARD, it's so hard to explain the explosiveness of these guys, immediately I felt Flash Roxx's voice penetrating my body like a hail of bullets and blood start pouring like wine. Niro Knox (Israeli guitar player) on guitar full of charisma, is an amazing sight, Moyano "Papi" on the drums use the finger rolls like classic Glam drummer and Lee Benz's nonchalant behavior is magically staring to the stew. There were some others surprising in the stew, Ronnie Peterson the legendry Israeli / American went up to the stage to shred alongside to Niro Knox. Also it didn't take long till Amir Neubach from THE GENDERS came up also to the stage and alongside the KING LIZARD's line up fired all guns, the mix of the KING LIZARD, Ronnie Peterson and Amir Neubach was hot like molten lava fired from a volcano.

I can conclude that is was a cold freezing day in Tel Aviv, however the Barby Club that night was hotter than steel plant furnaces and to whom who didn't attend, or couldn't come, you have just missed out on an amazing line up of bands stormed by the amazing KING LIZARD.Viva le KING LIZARD, we are waiting for you for another run.
