VOLCANO: To Release Debut LP, The Island, February 15

Featuring trailblazing musicians from San Diego's psychedelic music scene, including members of HARSH TOKE, JOY, LOOM and RADIO MOSCOW, VOLCANO merges Afro-beat rhythms, electric rock guitar and dance floor grooves to forge a sound that is totally new, yet instantly recognizable. The all-star group will release its debut LP, 'The Island', on February 15 via Tee Pee Records PAINTED DOLL, RUBY THE HATCHET, SWEET APPLE).
In advance of the release of The Island, VOLCANO today debuts a video for the record's first single "Naked Prey". The track premieres via The Obelisk who notes that the group melds "Afrobeat grooves with the psychedelia and heavy rock that's become such a staple of their hometown." On its dynamic debut, The Island, VOLCANO explodes, delivering polyrhythmic, serpentine, yet highly listenable songs that flow like lava and are at once, cool as ice and hot as hell. The album mines inspiration from global greats including FELA KUTI, THE WITCH, and THE FUNKEES, the krautrock mind-jams of CAN and NEU!, James Brown's funk and the rhythmic complexity of the Allman Brothers. The Island was recorded and engineered by Jordan Andreen (EARTHLESS, THE DAMNED, ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT).
Locally, the members of VOLCANO have been spotlighted with a focus feature cover story by the award-winning alt-weekly San Diego Citybeat (The Outward Expansion of San Diego's Psychedelic Scene, June 2017) and globally, with a special showcase spotlight at the Netherlands' popular Roadburn Festival in 2018.
Much like its members themselves, the music of VOLCANO is constantly moving and mutating; a modern fauxback sound that pays homage to the all-time greats, while forging a distinctly modern path towards the future.
