'The Rising' - UNDEAD PANDEMIC's first full-length album is an amalgamation of different thought processes and inspirations centred to one (albeit double-entendre) meaning/subject.

I intended it to be a nod towards Romero, Fulci and old-school survival horror video games - 'Unholy Sonata' being a chance to catch your breath - much like the save rooms in the Resident Evil (Biohazard) series of video games. I wanted to retain the 60's/70's/80's atmosphere that generally surrounds the zombie-themed genre which was great inspiration for the way the album went and the overall sound and production. I wanted the predominantly programmed drums to keep the processed feel; when inspiration comes from old-school video games, B-movies and cult fiction, I thought it'd be fitting for the drums to sound like a throw-back compared to todays production standards. I think it worked pretty well as part of the composition but hasn't generally been recieved with the same understanding behind it!

I think it was a Dutch reviewer who compared the sound to, or reminded them of, music from the original Terminator films - which was pretty much bang on the mark in terms of relevance to the era the album was inspired by.

I chose a subliminal role for the guitar work - contributing to atmousphere over a lead 'tune' as such which is further accentuated by insidious bass work. Atmousphere was very dominant in the thought behind this album. Traditional zombies (proper zombies - ROMERO ZOMBIES!) are generally quite slow and sluggish and ones that you could probably run or walk past. The horror element is built up through the atmousphere the music in these films create and play with the viewer's (or listener's, in this case) imagination. The result is for the viewer or listener to create their own fear based on the concept and the sounds the film or music is providing them with. Evil begins with a seed - Romero and Fulci are masters at planting these seeds. It is a concept I hope to deliver in my music as well as my written work. I've written two unabridged novels to date as well as many conceptual ideas and short pieces of work and the deliverance of fear in the way suggested above is one of the many tools used in producing the things that I do.

The feel relating to genre of 'The Rising' leans towards Blackened Death Metal which contrasts to the upcoming album 'NUNSLUT' which will be a total grindcore onslaught. There are elements in 'The Rising' that would suggest this as a progression, especially within the 5 bonus tracks at the end.

Originally I was going to have a short film made to run alongside 'The Rising' in the very early stages of its development but due to budget issues this never coalesced. The general outline of which was written but unfortunately may never see the light of day (or dark of night..). The concept may be used in the form of a short story at some point but I haven't got any plans to do so any time soon. Work is mainly focusing on 'NUNSLUT' and the progression of UNDEAD PANDEMIC musically.

The first single off UNDEAD PANDEMIC's "Nunslut", "Thirty Thousand Fisted Nuns" is now available for streaming atTHIS LOCATION.
