Trepanation Recordings are delighted to announce the signing of outstanding Liverpool post-metallers, MAIRU. What better way to accompany this news than to release the first single, 'Wild Darkened Eyes', taken from their upcoming album.

Formed in the North West of England in April 2018, MAIRU initially got together as a perspective 'heavy' project for three members of the instrumental post-rock outfit Kusanagi, along with their metal-loving friend brought in for good measure as a fourth member. After seeing the potential of those early rehearsal sessions, MAIRU quickly evolved into something far more focussed than a mere side gig. Standing tall as an independent and cohesive entity, MAIRU quickly went to work writing what would become their debut EP, 'The Sacred Dissonance'. The initial inspiration for their sound was cultivated from their love of instrumental heavyweights Pelican and post-rock pioneers Mogwai, contrasted against the crushing ferocity of post-metal archetypes Cult of Luna and the lavish soundscapes of Neurosis.

'The Sacred Dissonance' was produced, mixed and mastered at Vagrant Recordings by Tom Dring (Venom Prison, Dragged Into Sunlight, Gets Worse, Dawn Ray'd) from December 2018 ' January 2019. Self-released on Bandcamp in April 2019 (one year since the band's formation), the EP garnered universal acclaim from numerous metal blogs, zines and podcasts worldwide. Referred to as "one of the most powerful debut EPs of all time" by Naomi Preece of the music media outlet Circuit Sweet, the high praise helped the band gig extensively throughout 2019 and secure them on several high-profile support slots.

Moving into the next phase of their evolution, MAIRU are now ready to debut 'Wild Darkened Eyes', their first new release since 'The Sacred Dissonance' EP. Now incorporating further inspiration from extreme metal, the new material sees the band experimenting with the ephemeral use of vocals and treating them as another sonic texture. The band have expanded their sound into something equally ethereal yet apocalyptic which the band describe as atmospheric post-doom metal.

'Wild Darkened Eyes' is the lead single from the bands currently untitled debut full length album which will see release in 2020 via Trepanation Recordings.
