Lotty Recommends: King Leviathan
May 15, 2015
They are making a triumphant appearance in our Metal scene and even had a special spot at Metal Temple's festival. I am talking about the beautifully aggressive melodies of the mighty KING LEVIATHAN; hailing from Brighton they don't just bring the battle attire and war paint but the roaring battle that comes with their excellently heroic music. Here's what happened I caught a chat with this quartet.
Adam: Adam Sedgwick, I'm the lead singer and rhythm guitarist.
Rob: Rob Kuhler, I play lead guitar in King Leviathan.
Danny: Danny Yates, I'm the drummer.
Sam: Sam Forrester, Bass.
Adam: Personally I'm heavily influenced by Revocation, High On Fire, Sylosis, Gorguts, Gojira, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Behemoth and Neurosis, a lot more, but these are the top few for me
Rob: My influences come from industrial, thrash and melodic death metal, I have too many bands to single out
Danny: My main influences come more from the brutal death metal/ slam world. Bands such as; Dying Fetus, Ingested, Cattle Decapitation and Abominable Putridity. There are many more but these are the main influences for me personally.
Sam: All Kinds of styles which are all over the place.., Biggest influences for me personally are Death From Above 1979, System of A down, The Clash, Tom waits, MF Doom, Anthrax and The Cramps
Adam: We are mainly a Melodic Thrash metal group, but we also incorporate a bit of death metal, Black Metal and Doom.
Adam: The ripped shirts and war paint comes to the bands interest in myths, legends, alternative religions and the occult and how we could include it into King Leviathan with our image as well as with our songs and lyrics. The image that we have (ripped grey shirts, a black cross painted across our face and a lot of black paint covered over ourselves) is the representation of the Leviathan Cult that we call our fans, with us being the "cult leaders".
Danny: On a personal note I used to suffer from really bad stage fright and the war paint helped me pretend I wasn't a nervous wreck of a drummer until I overcame it!
Adam: With The Shrine you can expect faster, heavier and more brutal songs than from our last EP.
Danny: Let's hope so! Everything seems to be going really well with the band at the moment so a Leviathan invasion could well be a possibility!
Sam: All we can do is pray...To The Old Gods.
Rob: Buy guitars with 6 strings and use all of them
Danny: My advice would be don't rush anything. Take the time to find quality musicians, then take some more time to write some wicked material, rehearse it a shit load and finally gig the living hell out of it! But above all that, enjoy what you play and make it brutal as fuck!
