Ten months after (according to New Noise) "Ghastly Sound came seemingly from nowhere to release one of the most exciting EPs of the year," a blistering debut Metal Hammer called, "Furious but freewheeling sludge rock with massive tunes," the Burlington threesome has re-surfaced to drop their second EP of 2017, The Bottom.

In an early review via Echoes and Dust, the new EP is said to offer, "the visceral oomph of hardcore, with a metallic edge and a sprinkling of 1990s punk anthemic melody wrapped up in Unsane-style noise rock. So what to call it? How about just 'outstanding'?"

All of this courtesy of a band driven solely by drums, vocals and bass - no guitars whatsoever.

It's not all press blurbs and one-liners with this band, though.

In August, following the horrific events at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Ghastly Sound bassist TJ Maynard identified a local resident as a member of a white power group who'd taken part, and led the charge to have the man removed from employment within the community. He explains:

"They didn't fire him because he went to the rally or exercised his right to freedom of speech. They fired him because when the community saw that he was there, they told his employer that they would lose business if they kept him around."

Commenting on the story, Metal Sucks gave Maynard's actions their own horns up:

"The liberal metal community is doing us all proud by fighting back against total asshats in a variety of non-violent ways.... Ghastly Sound are a really talented group of guys, and as icing on the cake, it turns out they're proud Social Justice Warriors, too."

The Bottom was recorded by Daryl Rabidoux at The Radar Studio, with vocals recorded by Ryan Cohen at Robot Dog Studio, and will be released worldwide on December 15, 2017.

Metal Sucks is premiering debut single "Waves," calling it, "the kind of song which is so goddamn catchy that after hearing it once, your choices are basically to either listen to it again or to have it so deeply embedded in your brain that you yearn for it like a junkie for smack." Indy Metal Vault doles out the slow-burning track "Deadtooth," stating, "Ghastly Sound possess a surprising range of sonic capabilities that easily rival the outputs of their stoner/sludge contemporaries."Invisible Oranges will be heralding the official release on Dec. 15th with a full-EP streaming premiere that week.
