IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ROCK CANDY MAG, DEF LEPPARD GUITARIST PHIL COLLEN SAYS THE BAND'S INDUCTION INTO THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME ISN'T FOR HIM, IT'S FOR THE FANS!

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen is very pleased that the band has finally been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame after being in existence for more than 40 years. But he's adamant that it's Leppard's loyal fan base he's happy for.

"Personally it doesn't mean anything," he admits to writer Jon Hotten in the latest issue of Rock Candy Magazine. "But for the fans it's awesome. In the 15 years or whatever it is since we've been eligible, they've been pissed off on our behalf. You know, 'You guys have got two diamond albums, so how come you ain't in?'"

The five piece hard rock band from Sheffield, England have never been fashionable, but their multi-album career has seen them firmly established as one of the most successful rock acts of all time. Speaking exclusively to Rock Candy as part of an 18-page special cover story, 61-year-old Collen explains how legendary producer Mutt Lange, the man responsible for the sounds on the band's '80s mega-hit albums 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria', "taught us the difference between being average and being extraordinary. What he didn't accept was something that was 'wrong'. It can't be just bullsh*t, it has to be something special."

Having been an integral member of Def Leppard for over 35 years now, Collen feels the band is every bit as creative today as it ever has been.

"The concept of our band was always to create a hybrid between Queen, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rush, Prince! anything and everything. The last tour we did was our best, and that excites me. It keeps us going. It's magical, it really is."
