AXIOMA: Release Apocalyptic Sludge Masterpiece, "Crown."
June 26, 2019
Cleveland, OH dark metal legion AXIOMA have released "Crown", their blistering full-length debut today, ahead of their Friday, June 28th release date at Revolver Magazine.
About "Crown", guitarist Justin Meyers details, "over the course of two years, we built each piece of Crown as a unique and separate idea constructed, produced and performed by the group". "Lyrically the themes of the album grotesquely develop with repeated listens, ripping at the carcass of a diseased species Crown is an unrelenting passage toward our extinction. We continue to mutate and grow toward our own version of dark music. The artwork for the album is an extension of the internal subject matter, a reflection of the human virus and systematic methods of control."
"Crown" features a ravishing cover of Massive Attack's "Angel"!
"Crown" will be released on all formats via Translation Loss Records on Friday, June 28th. Order here:

Cleveland OH's Axioma present their devastating debut full length Crown. Nine punishing tracks of a unique amalgam of post-black metal, sludge and doom. Features extreme musical stalwart Aaron Dallison (Keelhaul, Brain Tentacles) on bass and vocals!
Forged in 2015, guitarist Cyril Blandino (Ex-Morgue[FR], Forged in Flame), bassist/vocalist Aaron Dallison (Keelhaul, Brain Tentacles, Escalation Anger, Ex-Ringworm), drummer Jon Vinson (Forged in Flame, Jesus Egg) & guitarist J. Meyers (Aureae Crucis, Dark Art & Craft) sought to create genre-bending dark metal that scours the fringes of black and death metal. Each release expands and clarifies Axioma's mission to bring forth the darkest and most terrifying sonic offerings. Marrying psychological horror and black metal precision, Axioma approach each song as a unique opportunity to destroy and rebuild the listener's perception. With Crown, Axioma have created each song to be sonically unique while still being eerily memorable. "Musically the album intertwines dark, doom and death metal structures with haunting soundscapes creating an atmosphere filled with dissonant riffs and complex time-structures", reveals guitarist J. Meyers. "Lyrically, Crown revolves on the human need to destroy and control with mechanisms like organized religion and corrupt systems of indoctrination. Humanity is a power obsessed virus, an unnatural aberration that kills and enslaves others to survive. From that rough concept we constructed small narratives and song structures that describe the vilest and most base of our needs, the absolute need for control resulting in Crown".
Crown includes a cover of "Angel", the trip hop opus by Bristol, UK's Massive Attack. "We always felt the mood and sparse vocals of "Angel" would fit well with our approach", comments Meyers. "We ended up altering the song structure, vocals and lyrical structure quite a bit which we felt brought a building brooding heaviness to the song. Our interpretation of the "Angel" uses the open and somber tone of the original song to build tension while incorporating dissonance and at times sludge textures."
About the recording, Meyers reveals, "we recorded with Dave Johnson in Cleveland, Ohio as we have worked with him on many projects and with other bands in the past. We had prepared and played many of the songs from Crown over a period of a year. This helped us tighten and refine the songs you now hear on album which we feel is an large evolution from "Opia". You can now hear all members of the band contributing fully to a massively dynamic release that takes the group farther from standard structures and themes and into a dark pit of sound all their own. Contorting death and dark metal into ever expanding and unorthodox directions."
