I'm an angry guy sometimes. I've never [been] into light weight bands like POISON, DANGER DANGER etc. To me those bands are the enemies. It's so much in this world that need to be changed but it's also very important to see all the beauty. The songs and the sound of the new album [are] simply because this is always what GEMINI FIVE has been all about from the start. We have not succeded in putting all that frustration into our previous records though...So we figured, this time we do it ourselves!
No one is gonna tell us what to do or to share his vision of what's hot and hot! That is just pure speculation. We go by our gut feeling. Myself, this is the first time I'm really happy about how the band is being presented. This is how we always been expressing us live on stage. We're not a pussy band! I guess the anger comes from the sweet taste of revenge. We do not want to be compromising with an outside person like a producer. It's like trying to please someone that is there for his own brand which sometimes does not sum up with what we're all about! I mean, this new album is the best damn album in this genre for 20 years! And its all thanks to Slim, Tin and I.
A lot of the frustration came from not being happy about the band's situation last year 2007. We sat down and discussed the whole thing and came to the conclusion that some things had to change to make this band big! We fired the guitarist since he wasn't happy with the direction of the new songs. We ended the partnership with our management and ended the collaboration with the supposed producer of the album, Kory Clarke. He didn't bring what we had in mind for the album and it ended by me producing the producer... We even threw out the recordings we did with Kory and Snoopy since it really gave us angst just listening to it. Kory is a great guy but he wasn't cutting it as a G5 producer.
We just got a review from a German magazine saying: This is the album BACKYARD BABIES was trying to do with Stockholm Syndrome. That pretty much said it right there!
Yes, for GEMINI FIVE, S.D.A. is definitely the crucial one! Not that I'm terrified of losing fans as by every release, you will lose some but you will gain a lot more though. This is the time for us to collect what I always believed [was] ours in terms of getting the appreciation in a bigger scale.
I would say that S.D.A. is Babylon Rockets on drugs! We said, fuck what people say, think or might think...we only pleased ourselves and by doing so we delivered an album which will show the true colours of GEMINI FIVE. This is what we always been about; In-your-face-cum-hardrock! If we managed to please yourself, only then people will be able to connect.
That's because Tin and I have a different approach when it comes to the songwriting. Tin brings most of the melodies and I bring the rough riffs as on I Am Hollow, Here 2day Gone 2mrw and Tin delivers the cool smooth tracks as Something's Gotta Give and Thunder & Lightning. As you said, Here's Looking At You, Kid lies in the middle, since it's a song we totally contributed by a 50% each. It's like KISS. You hear when either Paul or Gene has written the track...
We don't know, to be honest at this point. Our opinion is that it's worth but the record label is of a diffrent point of view...We are absolutely a band which is needed to both listen and watch at the same time. It's the whole idea of GEMINI FIVE. Plans are in the making but I can't tell, you know, if it's gonna be a video to Scream 4 Me or a video along with the next single release...You gotta stay tuned and find out!
Black Anthem reached as high as No.8 at the Swedish hardrock chart in 2005. S.D.A. was placed at No.3 on its very first week, from what I know. The album will be released in most parts of Europe on Friday, June 13th.
We found Dee through Cat of DEATHSTARS. Cat had been replacing Snoopy occasionally on a few gigs temporarily. Dee and Cat are great friends and they're both from the city Karlstad. We had him coming to Stockholm trying out and he pulled it off! Things are running great. He's only been in the band for 3 months.
No, we recorded the album as a three-piece since Tin, Slim and I were on the exact same level! We didn't wanna argue, compromise or push the recordings/release further into the future.
Marcus is great friend of ours. Both Tin and Slim have played in a band for years together with Marcus long before GEMINI FIVE. We just wanted and needed some serious shredding to the album. Marcus participated on three tracks. Martin Sweet is of course playing lead guitar on the three tracks we wrote togeher; Scream 4 Me, Sex Drugs Anarchy and Stay With Me. Eric Young and Martin Sweet of CRASHDIET plus me, Tin and Slim are doing. Rest of the lead parts are split between Tin and myself.
For some reason, no Swedish festivals such as Sweden Rock Festival, Hultsfred etc are interested in booking G5! I have no idea why?! We have a much stronger following in Europe and Japan. Dunno if I or anyone else in the band will attend the festival next week...I know if we played we would kick all the established bands' asses!
Don't care too much about KISS these days...Saw them last Friday here in Stockholm and I spent most time of the event talking to friends and drinking beer. However, KISS ment everything to me in the past!
Thank you Greg for your compliments and for your time. Hope to see you soon! All the best, Hot Rod//GEMINI FIVE.
