Cypher D. Rex

Vyre

Being weird within ones musical patterns, or better suggested as diverse and off the charts by presuming to be out of the ordinary, isn't something to ridicule but to attest to its magnitude. Interview - Cypher D. Rex (Vyre) interview
Hey Cypher D. Rex, thanks so much for doing this interview. How are you?

I am fine and hope you are too. Thank you for taking your time and for giving us a voice.

What would you say is the central concept behind "Vyre" as a band?

Telling stories about life in general clad in Sci-Fi/Space Opera skin. Playing atmospheric metal and enjoying the concept of the sum being greater than the parts.

How exactly would you describe your music style?

Sci-Fi Metal. Sci-Fi lyrics and metal music.

What's the idea and influence behind "The Initial Frontier Pt. 1"?

TIF1 together with the upcoming second part is for us an introduction to the point where our fictional world in which we tell our stories stands right now. Musically it also acts as a deep space outpost from where we can launch our expeditions into the unknown.

Which song on the album is the most significant to you?

None of the them stands out for me. I actively try to see the album or even the duology in its entirety. It works best for me that way. And thats the way we would like it to be recognized by the listener.

What do you think sets you guys apart from other Metal bands?

I don´t think we are any different than other metal bands. We play the music we like about stuff we care about. Thats what metal is all about and we are no different. Maybe the retro portion is a bit smaller than in a lot of other contemporary metal bands.

Have you had the opportunity to share the stage with any of your favourite bands?

As we are still very early in our career with Vyre we did not have the opportunity to do a lot of gigs. On an individual basis every one of us had the opportunity to share the stage with great bands being active in different other outfits. All in all every band that plays with full on motivation, giving their best is my favourite band to play with.

If you could tour with any band, alive or dead, who would it be?

That would be Arcturus. A band that amazed me since their first album. We share a general interest in anything space, so that would be a good match. Let Aeons Confer and Darkspace hop on to that tour and we are in avantgarde sci-fi space heaven.

How do you spend your time outside of band practice?

Mostly working our asses off, caring about our families and persuing different hobbies. For me being a soundtechnician its all about music mixed with some general interest in what science has to offer these days and some politics. When there is still time left i enjoy a good book or an epic computer game.

Do you guys always get along?

Yes. For now. Haha.

What are the next steps for "Vyre"? Any last words for the fans?

Releasing the second installment of The Initial Frontier in the first half of 2014 and hopefully crush a lot of stages and satisfy a lot of live audiences where and whenever possible. To our fans (if there are any) and our soon to be fans (if there are any): We would just kindly ask you to support us by buying our albums, attending our shows, getting some merch and spreading the word about us and our music.

That's all the questions I have, thanks so much, and best of luck with the future of the band!

Thanks to you too.
