Psycroptic is a rather new metal band, wich has released only two albums so far in their career, The Isle of Disenchantment and the one presented here. The quartet from Tasmania seems really capable of providing great technical/death metal, as these guys literally beat the shit out of their instruments without ommiting the needfull dose of musicality and the least I can say about the outcome is that it is really interesting.
The Scepter of The Ancients consists of nine hyper-aggressive songs filled with ear-catching riffs and truelly astonishing rhythm changes!While listening to this album you could easily suppose that some of these songs might have 'popped' out of the cut sessions of Atheist's Piece of Time or even Death's Sound of Perseverance and in my humble opinion this sounds 100% positive. Their drummer sometimes really 'loses control' of his drum kit, drawing everyone's attention on him with his outstanding abilities. The vocalist here is another phenomenon, I mean...oh God! How on earth is it possible for a vocalist to combine 'gurgling', disgorge-like vocals and high-pitched ones (always within the boundaries of Death Metal) without tiring the listener at all?! This man is indeed the strong point of Psycroptic but it would be totally unfair to disregard the rest of the band member's contribution, as the whole result seems harmonic and collective.
Overall, a bombastic release from Psycroptic and totally recommended to the fans of technicall, brutal/death Metal. I really can't find a single weak point in this album and the more I keep listening to it, the more I dig out additional reasons to like it. To be frank, I don't claim having a masterpiece overhere but it certainly stands out from the rest releases of the genre which come out these years. If Psycroptic continue their hard work and keep the high standards they've already set, they're capable of dominating in the near future. Until then...
