Already having a superb start before the tour began THE DEFILED sold out the first show in Nottingham at Rock City before yet selling out the upgraded venue of Rescue Rooms. Heading out also on the 7 date UK tour are THE KILLING LIGHTS and BUTCHER BABIES both bringing their own face paint and stage acts along with them. The ''No Place Like Home'' tour is for anyone who loves bands like WEDNESDAY 13, MOTIONLESS IN WHITE and BLACK VEIL BRIDES where there is no doubt that you will spot a shirt of that kind in the crowd.
First on stage is the band formally known as VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE! is THE KILLING LIGHTS which are a mix of Metalcore and Electro Pop. Despite all their jumping around the stage and trying their hardest to get the crowd warmed up it seemed that only the smallest amount of people appreciated their new sound. The band played their new songs despite old school fans demanding their old music but overall their performance was not enjoyable.
Before the band even enter the stage, war paint wearing "Slut Metal" group BUTCHER BABIES have already warmed the rowdy audience up for their unique sound. Duo vocalists Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey create a blend of soft and harsh vocals when both put together and even manage to perform at a superb standard whilst headbanging and climbing over the stage with bassist Jason Klein covering most of the right side of the stage with his antics. BUTCHER BABIES perform well known and new songs such as ''Magnolia Blvd'', ''Axewound'' and ''I Smell A Massacre''. Whilst BUTCHER BABIES are highly judged, you either love them or hate them with their provocative nature and ear wrenching screams but Rescue Rooms, Nottingham certainly adored the band.
Late on stage but still adored by the packed venue is headline band THE DEFILED which has the audience screaming their lungs out. Creating a set mixed of tracks from their first EP and new album ''Daggers'' gravel throated vocalist Stitch D gets the whole venue singing along immediately to songs such as ''The Ressurectionists'', ''As I Drown'' and ''Blood Sells'' followed by fan favourite ''Black Death'' which had a plague doctor on the stage carrying a giant cross throughout the track. THE DEFILED are easily one of the most energetic bands around with keyboardist The AvD constantly jumping everywhere, it's hard to think he even plays the keyboard live. Despite numerous sound difficulties for the acoustic performance of ''Five Minutes'' they took a small break to sing happy birthday to a member of the audience and followed by The AvD kissing a fan before carrying on with the track with an out of tune electric guitar. Overall their set was perfect despite them not being allowed pyrotechnics like at their usual shows and numerous difficulties but THE DEFILED started off the tour with a bang.
Setlist:
1. Sleeper
2. As I Drown
3. The Resurrectionists
4. New Approach
5. Black Death
6. No Place Like Home
7. Blood Sells
8. Unspoken
9. Five Minutes
10. In The Land Of Fools
11. Call To Arms
For the first date of the tour it was a mighty good show and can only get better with every date, the ''No Place Like Home Tour'' is underrated perfect.
