I wouldn't miss this gig for anything! A simple rain -no matter how heavy it was- wasn't able to stop me from attending. So, at around 21:00 I was outside Rodeo Club happy seeing familiar faces and more around 100 true metallers in this small club.
I just managed to say hello with a couple of friends, before MORTAL THREAD started their set. I'm not familiar with their work, so I can't say many things. The only thing I comment is that they did manage to warm us up with their Thrash. All the friends of the band managed to make some mosh-pits inside the tiny arena and to get into some-kind-of stage diving, where they were kicking the lights above the stage due to the low ceiling. Overall, it was a good appetizer for this dedicated to Thrash night.
It was time to watch VERDICT DENIED for one more time. The techno-Thrash quartet gave its best, playing songs from their long awaited, but finally released, debut album "Condamned". The sound was as good as it could be in this club and all the fans had a great time. Apart from the already known songs, VERDICT DENIED played two covers: "Creeping Death" and "Children Of The Grave", where the band's frontman Billy gave the microphone to Nikos Sirakos, a friend of the band. The band also performed a new song, "Action Defensive" that showed their potentials. You can listen to this song by visiting their myspace page . I am pretty sure that if VERDICT DENIED were based abroad, they could have made a bigger impact.
VERDICT DENIED setlist:
01. "Dark Twisted Laughter"
02. "Twisted And Menacing My Stare"
03. "Creeping Death"
04. "Children Of The Grave"
05. "Battle Within"
06. "Action Defensive"
07. "94 x 1 Vain"
08. "The Last Act"
Last but not least STEAMROLLER ASSAULT hit the stage. I was curious to see how the band was going to perform with a new and at the same time old member Nick The Machine behind the microphone. They started their Thrash attack with a song from their first and self-titled CD, Born For Destruction. They were in a great form, as always, and even if I was surprised by the first scream from Nick sounding closer to N.W.O.B.H.M. fortunately and as the live went on, I realized that his voice may be the one needed by the band. But I have to listen to them again in order to reach a safe conclusion. The only thing that they have to do is more rehearsals in order to bind the new members (vocals and bass player), with the old ones even better. Of course, just like every appearance of STEAMROLLER ASSAULT, a problem must occur! This time was Mad Dog's pedal that broke! So, after a semi acoustic blues intermission, this Thrash gala, if I may say, was coming to a close with the final composition "Burnt At The Stake". Pure fucking Thrash 'n Roll.
It was a great Thrash night, a chamber music event as we like to call it. A night full of Thrash Metal, beer, cigarettes and some nice female appearances. The party was over, but I am sure that will have the joy to see all of them again on stage soon.
