I was pretty excited to see SCALE THE SUMMIT again after they blew me away at Texas Madfest 2007. Before I leave my apartment I checked the rest of the bands at their MySpace pages and so I was semi-excited to see them as well, due to the diversity in the lineup. To top off the evening I was having S.T.S. stay at my apartment afterwards, which was a privilege except for a certain band member's morning accident!
THE ORANGE MAN THEORY were up first for the evening and their overall appearance gave me the indication that this was gonna be interesting, due to the size of the stage which is about three inches off the ground and tiny. I personally didn't really care about their music, but they got a few people into it. I guess you could describe it as a Metalcore_Stoner blend. The singer was very enthusiastic, even though there was not much of crowd. He did several of the typical Metalcore moves, like wrapping the mic chord around his neck like a noose and jumping off the stage and singing in people's faces. The bassist made some excellent faces during some of the songs; I wish I had my camera at the time.
The metalheads from Texas were up next and I could feel the tension mounting between my friends and I. Let's just say that they did not disappoint us at all. They played a good amount of material from their Monument album, actually all of it except two songs I think. I know they played a couple of my favorites, such as Crossing The Ocean and Wolves. As I told the guys after the show, everyone in the band is a phenomenal, but the groove that the bassist maintains is the glue for them.
Chris and Travis lay down some of the sickest guitar work that I have had the pleasure of watching at such a close range. Mr. Skeffington, who was the last person to get warm water at my apt thanks to their admirable tour manager Hudson, laid down some SICK drum fills and the groove from the bass only added to the awesomeness that was the rhythm section. Due to the limited parking at my apartment complex, we did have to leave immediately following their set, so we missed BIBLE OF THE DEVIL. I look forward to seeing them next time, though.
