Impii Hora
Asinhell
International projects and bands are efforts done between musicians of different nationalities to create a musical work. It’s because one musician thinks ‘that vocalist would fit on what I want’ or ‘that bassist got what I need’ or something in this way. Or it’s a need to make something between friends as well, and even the need for a musician to express his ideas on a different way than the usual. Maybe the three ideas can fit on what is offered by ASINHELL on the band’s first release, the album called “Impii Hora”. On the band’s ranks are musicians known for their works with acts as BLOOD EAGLE, HATESPHERE, VOLBEAT, DISCREATION, INSIDIOUS DISEASE, MORGOTH and others. The main idea expressed: a classic form of Death Metal with deep roots on the 90’s (the so called Old School Death Metal model).
But with such experienced musicians with different backgrounds, it’s obvious that some refinement is expected, and it is here (even on a subjective form). It’s brutal and nasty, using some Death/Thrash Metal elements (as the tempos and rhythmic shifts heard on “Island of Dead Men”), full of energy and hooks in a way that will seduce easily extreme Metal fans. It’s a matter of hearing to it and loving it. As the greater part of the band is from Denmark (only the vocalist is from Germany), it’s not a surprise to see the name of Jacob Hansen as producer (and who did the recording, mixing, mastering and played bass as well as a session musician). The creation is something that bears the classic Death Metal elements and instrumental tunes, but always with a refined insight that created a brutal and classic sonority that takes advantage of modern recordings (what means that it’s defined as well, in a way that’s impossible to say that isn’t understandable).
The names of Marc Grewe, Michael Poulsen, and Morten Toft Hansen are enough to guarantee that “Impii Hora” is a very good release. So you must taste what is offered to you on songs as “Fall of the Loyal Warrior” (a catchy set of guitar riffs can be heard under such shifts between faster and slower tempos), “Inner Sancticide” (an disturbing and morbid song with excellent grunts and screams piercing the instrumental sheath), “Island of Dead Men” (some Old School Death/Thrash Metal hooks can be heard on this one, with a solid and great work from bass guitar and drums), “The Ultimate Sin” (it’s not a complicated song in terms of technique, but the hooks inherited from Hardcore can be heard in many moments), “Desert of Doom” (the dynamics between the instruments and vocals are boosted due the Hardcore appeal presented in some parts), and “Impii Hora”.
It’s obvious that too much can be expected from ASINHELL in the future, but for now, “Impii Hora” is really a very good release.
