As you can see yourselves, it is not hard to understand what are these guys all about. I knew I would have to face a melodic something (Death, Thrash) band from the first time I got this CD in my hands. Looks like I was right! So, one more classic release from Spinefarm...
MYGRAIN hail from Helsinki, Finland. They were formed in the summer of 2004 through the ashes of NEW SCIENCE BAND. This band also features ex-members of ABLAZE IN HATRED, ...AND THE OCEANS and TERRORWHEEL. They have released two demo CD's, which earned them a contract with Spinefarm Records. In January 2006, they entered Sound Supreme studios to record their debut album, Orbit Dance.
So, MYGRAIN is a very nice band that seems to be based on its catchy riffs, good melodies and great production. The vocals are classic melodic Death Metal vocals, which means brutal and aggressive. It is very good for a debut album but the point it is nothing more than a classic melodic Death Metal album. While listening to Orbit Dance I realized that I was listening to a copy/paste band. I like melodic Death Metal as a genre a lot but as you may have noticed yourselves, there is a lack of inspiration and new ideas. MYGRAIN seem to be a clone of many well-known Swedish bands such as SOILWORK, IN FLAMES and much similar to the newer SCAR SYMMETRY. It is a very good album that won't let you get bored, not even for a single second. It is just that it is too common. If you have listened to some stuff from the Swedish Metal scene, you will understand what I am saying.
Orbit Dance is a CD that will not let you down but it is just what I said above, common. If they come up with some fresh ideas, I think that they will kick some major ass.
