Songs For The Last View

I thought that my recent review on Diary Of A No by URBAN TALES was a really nice break from the extreme stuff I get to review lately. The fact is that I am not a narrow minded black/death metaller and I sometimes search for something more melodic, experimental or anything else to listen to since variation never caused damage to anyone. That's why I chose to review LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE's brand new album Songs For The Last View.
The German metallers/rockers were formed in 1993 and this album marks their 15th anniversary. Since the band's previous beautiful work Filthy Notes For Frozen Hearts (2006) some things happened. The band's singer Christopher Schmid left the band to be replaced by this youngster by the name Rob Vitacca. Have you heard of him? I guess not...
The band has managed to create a respectable position in the melodic Goth Metal/Rock scene with its consistency in releasing quality albums. The German act proved that they were able to get in the big league (it seems they have already done it) since they are getting better and better with every album they release. The fact is that the best moment of their career comes with a new danger. Will the 21 year old singer manage to continue from where Christopher Schmid left the band?
Songs For The Last View comes equipped with a heavy and polished sound, since the usual suspect John Fryer (HIM, NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST) took really good care of the production and gave the band the boost it needed. The 12 compositions that form LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE's new album are exactly what a fan could expect from these guys, since the guitar melodies are well worked, the rhythm section is the perfect base for the rest of the band and... the youngster tries really hard. I must confess, he is far from being compared to Christopher. Schmid was an experienced and talented vocalist that helped the band reach its current state, but the good thing about Vitacca is that his performance in this album shows that he has the potential to become something really good for LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE. He has a wide vocal range that helps him sing in a melodic low pitched voice, as well as scream like a punk rocker when the tracks need some extra power!
The German metallers/rockers (it's your choice how you call them) have managed to create an album that will satisfy every single fan. For those who don't know them, if you like HIM, THE 69 EYES, CHARON and SENTENCED you will definitely fall in love with Songs For The Last View. And on last note, And God's Ocean is a fucking amazing ballad!
