Corrupted Crescendos
Necrony
Since REPULSION started what NAPALM DEATH, EXTREME NOISE TERROR and CARCASS popularized and the scene came to known as Grindcore, this genre attracted many young bands, and more and more acts of the genre appeared, as Death Metal acts started to use influences earned from "Horrified", "SCUM", "From Enslavement to Obliteration", "Reek of Putrefaction" and others to mix them with Death Metal (and Grindcore acts came to earn influences from Death Metal as well). The genre, during the early days of the 90s, was extremely popular, so it's not strange to see that Sweden had acts of the genre, one of them is NECRONY, from Örebro, who ceased to exist on 1996. But as the embryonic form of the popular band NASUM, it earned a lot of respect into Grindcore/Death Metal scene of Sweden, and it can be the reason for the release of this compilation called "Corrupted Crescendos".
As the words above states clear, the band did a mix between Grindcore influences with Swedish Death Metal, earning them a personality (yes, if one could travel back in time and hear these songs on their original days, this one would have this idea clear), because sometimes things are into an Old School Death Metal trend, on others Grindcore essence becomes more clear. It's obvious that it sounds primitive and nasty, but it's the charm of their music that, even after all these years, is still very good to experience. And this compilation has material of their demo tapes "Severe Malignant Pustule" and "Promo Tape 93/94", of the Single "Mucu-Purulent Miscarriage", and of their only album, "Pathological Performances".
One can think about the shifts of sonority due the tracks are coming from different releases, and they're clear to the ears. But what is the release in such form (compilation) that doesn't have such feature? But even on the Demo Tape tracks, things aren't as terrible as one can think. Maybe the remastering done at Unisound Studio by the hands of Dan Swanö healed some of the main problems. The tracks are in a timeline according the band's releases.
It means that "Intro: Ortuo", "Masticator of a Swollen Carcass", "Hill of Cadavers", "Consuming Cartilage", "Decomposed Genitals", "Pus-Bonum-Et-Lauda-Bile", "Severe Malignant Pustule" and "Outro: Ortni" belong to their 1991's Demo Tape "Severe Malignant Pustule", showing a more putrid and usual form of Death Metal (beside some keyboards parts can be heard, as on "Hill of Cadavers"), similar to their compatriots, but with some Grindcore parts (hear "Decomposed Genitals" to get this idea clear). The things and ideas of the band are better expressed on "Mucu-Purulent Miscarriage" and "Multilocular Morphea-Sarkoblasters", both coming from the Single "Mucu-Purulent Miscarriage" Single (released on 1991 too), both remind a bit what can be heard on DEFECATION's "Purity Dilution".
From their only, "Pathological Performances" (released on 1993), here are "Rigor Mortis Sets in", "Dexterous Embryectomy", "Submassive Necrosis Disgorgement", "Gynopathological Excav-Eater", "Accumulation of Exudate", "Ocular Obliteration", "Pro-Rectal Carnage", "Excavated, Eviscerated and Emaciated", "Effervescing Discharge of Putrescent Corpulence", "The Squirming Worms", "Acute Pyencephalus and Cerebral Decomposure" and "Funeral Ferocity", all of them with a better sonority (still using Swedish Death Metal usual appeal as a blueprint for it), with all those nasty and aggressive elements of the 90's. But one thing becomes clear after hearing them: the band was just starting to use their musical potential, and besides they can seem a bit immature, they were in the right way, indeed.
And from "Promo Tape 93/94", here are "Under the Black Soil" and "Forensickness", both showing a band that was maturing with time, but that kept their own personality intact. For vinyl lovers, some bonus tracks are from their EP of covers, released on 1994 and that's called "Necronycism: Distorting the Originals" (a joke with CARCASS' album title). They are "Fermenting Innards", "Swarming Vulgar Mass of Infected Virulency", "Die in Pain" and "Mucupurulence Excretor" (all of them of CARCASS), "Dis-Organ-Ized" (of IMPETIGO), "Bodily Dismemberment" and "Festering Boils" (of REPULSION); "Cenotaph" of BOLT THROWER cover); "Lucid Fairytale", "The Kill" and "Deceiver" (all of them are NAPALM DEATH's cover), "The Day Man Lost" (an old CARNAGE's cover), "Protest and Survive" (of English Hardcore masters of DISCHARGE), "Pungent Excruciation" (another CARCASS' song, showing how they were influenced by the English quartet). There are other songs of rehearsals and live shots never released before.
"Corrupted Crescendos" serves as a tombstone for the band, and shows the world that a titan called NECRONY existed one the world.
